my review for this book is going to be my next thesis at this point because I fucking adore this book. I need to inject its words into my brain

I hope Schaeffer is ready for my two star review because that line from Ness was unacceptable

this book definitely has “1 1/2 syndrome” where the first book was too long to be a standalone, but the second book is too short and the ideas have to be stretched thin to exist. needless to say, the well is drying up and it’s sadly been a chore to read

Ness is REALLY getting on my nerves but the action is at least decent

I fear Cy is just as one dimensional as he was in city of nightmares. though the director has weirdly become more interesting (and sassy).

the queer representation is amazing! I also find it interesting how ness uses the large problem of being in boat explosion as a distraction from several, smaller ongoing stresses is her life. it’s realistic and eerily relatable

I LOVE this world and plot but the prose is very juvenile and repetitive

I yearn for answers

before I read on, I have a sinking feeling that Dove is not really there. I’m not saying she’s dead per se but it’s strange no one really interacts with Dove and she keeps appearing and disappearing
