Beautiful, intimate writing that conveyed a slew of feelings and created a detailed portrait of the setting. I really enjoyed this book, but can't quite give it 5 stars because I still felt some level of disconnection from the characters. Although they developed over the book, I think they still lacked a dimension of humanity that wasn't so serious. Maybe the style was just a bit too dramatic for me.
