The Poppy War readers: it’s starting to feel like Jiang is telling one of his stories to Rin… and yet, I’m still all in.

Currently making my way through The Poppy War for January and really enjoying it. There’s a lot going on and some of it goes over my head, but I’m still hooked and eager to see what happens to Rin. January is usually a slower reading month for me because work is busy, so I’m happy to be making progress!

Major déjà vu with this book. Even though it was published in 2025 and I didn’t read it last year, and I'm confident I know who did it and why.

Not enjoying this, the bullying and non-consensual acts have me putting this down. Will pick up another book.

I'm hooked. I was a bit hesitant to start this one—loved the first book in the series, but the second didn’t really click with me. Thankfully, I didn’t skip this one. It's shaping up to be a great read.

I wasn't prepared for what happened, even though I had a feeling it was coming.

A number of frustrations with this book. One is with the love interest in this book. “You spend a lot of time pretending you don’t understand what I’m saying.” Well, what are you saying? You haven’t actually said anything—you’re just beating around the bush. Just spit it out and communicate.

Wait, what? 😵

I didn't think I would like Ben. But he might end up on my favorite male characters list.

I'm loving the banter between Emily and Jack.

I'm hooked within the first few pages. The writing is powerful—raw, emotional, and deeply relatable. The way the author portrays Bree's grief feels personal, putting into words emotions that many readers have experienced themselves.

The museum, ah....I think I'm following.

They say one should not judge a book by its cover, yet the charm of this cover was such that I could not resist its pull. However, I ask that you not pass judgment based on the title alone.

I made it to page 58 of this book back in December but ended up putting it down. I think I’ll leave it on the shelf for now and let it sit for a while longer. The "Now" part of the story just isn’t grabbing me. Also, I can read and write cursive, but the font for the letters is really throwing me off—it’s a bit harsh on the eyes. On to find my next read...

"The first 96 pages were a bit of a struggle to get through, and I wasn’t sure what was going on. But now the story is picking up speed, with so much happening. The tension is real; trust no one! Work and adulting are getting in the way, but I’m hopeful to finish this week."

I’ve heard this book is a real tearjerker, but I didn’t expect it to hit me so quickly—by page 12, I was already tearing up. By page 13, I had my hand over my heart. Should I keep going? I know more heartbreak is coming.

KR fans are about to hate me. But keep in mind I gave Skyland book one a five star. I'm done with the profanity in this book. I'm not being righteous. The profanity doesn't enhance the characters' statements or make me feel the intensity of their feelings.

I’m finding the second book in the Skyland series to be less engaging than I had hoped, and I’m considering whether to continue it. This is particularly disappointing given that its ratings are as high as those for the first book. I am keeping notes of my dislikes and will include them in my final review. But for starters 81 pages in and I'm not invested in the story line or connecting with the characters.

I love this book so far. It's definitely starting off to be a five-star read. This book does come with trigger warnings. I love the author's note on how she handled writing about difficult matters, how she handled it, and her goal.
