Not fully sold yet — the writing style isn’t clicking for me. The analogies and some of the phrasing are doing a bit too much and pulling me out of the story.

The Poppy War readers: it’s starting to feel like Jiang is telling one of his stories to Rin… and yet, I’m still all in.

Currently making my way through The Poppy War for January and really enjoying it. There’s a lot going on and some of it goes over my head, but I’m still hooked and eager to see what happens to Rin. January is usually a slower reading month for me because work is busy, so I’m happy to be making progress!

Major déjà vu with this book. Even though it was published in 2025 and I didn’t read it last year, and I'm confident I know who did it and why.

Not enjoying this, the bullying and non-consensual acts have me putting this down. Will pick up another book.

I'm hooked. I was a bit hesitant to start this one—loved the first book in the series, but the second didn’t really click with me. Thankfully, I didn’t skip this one. It's shaping up to be a great read.

I wasn't prepared for what happened, even though I had a feeling it was coming.

A number of frustrations with this book. One is with the love interest in this book. “You spend a lot of time pretending you don’t understand what I’m saying.” Well, what are you saying? You haven’t actually said anything—you’re just beating around the bush. Just spit it out and communicate.

I didn't think I would like Ben. But he might end up on my favorite male characters list.

I'm loving the banter between Emily and Jack.

I'm hooked within the first few pages. The writing is powerful—raw, emotional, and deeply relatable. The way the author portrays Bree's grief feels personal, putting into words emotions that many readers have experienced themselves.

The museum, ah....I think I'm following.
