"I hoped to be radical as quietly as possible" is a seemingly throwaway line in the middle of a sentence that really encapsulates Adrian, lol. liking this so far. didn't realize he was straight?? seems impossible. i also loved seeing him reconnect with Monty even if I'm sure I didn't catch all the references. (definitely didn't need to go back and reread the rest of the series, not that I seriously considered it)

nothing that original, but i'm having fun nonetheless! (also, the narrator sounds so much like Evangeline from Red Queen, but apparently it's not, crazy). the initial pull for me was the whole romance cover novel, but it's kind of an insigificant part of the novel. looking at it now it's kinda like yeah it makes sense it's not really relevant. a tad disappointing though.

looooving this. i was a bit dubious in the beginning about the bonds between the characters (in regards to the oaths) but i think time has smoothed that over. im invested in their romance, but i'm moreso invested in the plot. in the hands of a less skilled author hela's chapters would be both random and boring, but roth inures her to us so well. love LOVE theren, elegy's more complicated, but so excited to continue!

loving this so far! the world is so engrossing- the fever!! i love (who seem to be) our two main characters, if separately. i was kinda surprised when i went to log this and saw it listed as dystopian romantasy because while i am loving the book, i'm not necessarily really seeing the romance yet. much more interested in the political stuff. sometimes you kinda wish you had less info going in, yanno?

into the plot yet regarding who they're going to meet/what rowan really wants from her. i am interested in those answers. (and we would get there faster if we got rid of these tedious diversions to childhood).

in third grade on how to use the ai to create stories (because creating and selling your own story would be copyright infringement becuase the ai company owns all ideas. again, chilling) but this idea could have been explored in the present timeline. as it stands, i groan whenever we go back because it's interrupting the main story, and i grow less and less interested every time we flip to the present again...

easier systems to live in. the fact that kelli is merely a "script supervisor," basically someone who polishes off scrpits that ai spits out... chilling. on the other hand, i really feel like the story is bogged down by the dual timeline. so much of the background and character motivation that the past establishes could easily and more storngly be established in the present. for example, they have a whole lesson...

there's nothing wrong with this book per se, but it is having trouble capturing my attention. i get that it's realistic, but i'm irritated at the fmc who insists she's wise to the world yet is so incredibly naive in her own mariage. why does it always have to be a female mc who has to break the manipulation of the older/experienced male character? (because rw sexism, i know, but it makes everything so predictable)

it's been so long since i've picked up a book and was immediately sucked in! loving this one so far. plus the cover is very pretty😍 (also one niche thing this author is doing that i love: using precise verb choice to convey underlying meaning. like when the king first sees the mc, he's 'loping' over. get it?! it's not too on the nose, but still blatant enoguh to get. i literally screamed alone in my car)

Less by Andrew Sean Greer, and if i'm not mistaken, that's sort of the point? i don't know i haven't actually read it. but we'll see here if the general malasie bears out to any sort of thematic significance, or if it's just uninteresting writing
