looooving this. i was a bit dubious in the beginning about the bonds between the characters (in regards to the oaths) but i think time has smoothed that over. im invested in their romance, but i'm moreso invested in the plot. in the hands of a less skilled author hela's chapters would be both random and boring, but roth inures her to us so well. love LOVE theren, elegy's more complicated, but so excited to continue!

loving this so far! the world is so engrossing- the fever!! i love (who seem to be) our two main characters, if separately. i was kinda surprised when i went to log this and saw it listed as dystopian romantasy because while i am loving the book, i'm not necessarily really seeing the romance yet. much more interested in the political stuff. sometimes you kinda wish you had less info going in, yanno?

there's nothing wrong with this book per se, but it is having trouble capturing my attention. i get that it's realistic, but i'm irritated at the fmc who insists she's wise to the world yet is so incredibly naive in her own mariage. why does it always have to be a female mc who has to break the manipulation of the older/experienced male character? (because rw sexism, i know, but it makes everything so predictable)

not that i'm breaking any new ground here, but so far, i think this would be an excellent primer for people just starting to look beyond standard education in america. where some nonfiction can be informative if dry, smith's prose leap off the page. his poetry background shines through.

i suddenly saw everybody on my fyp recommending this so i thought i'd give it a shot! tbh don't love the narrator but am loving the story so far but it has that dry wit that i've come to love from historicals, especially coming from georgiana's friends. excited to see where this one goes!
