i'm liking this okay so far. certainly one of the most prescient dystopians i've read about ai. ai is not a meglomanic overlord. technology doesn't have to literally physically control you in order to enter a worst case scenario. perhaps because it was published so recently it plays very well with present anxieties around intellectual property, creativity, and what's at stake when we decide that llms are purer...

into the plot yet regarding who they're going to meet/what rowan really wants from her. i am interested in those answers. (and we would get there faster if we got rid of these tedious diversions to childhood).

'let me think for myself' moment, and that it's a transitionary period to relying on ai stories to one she created herself in childhood to eventually gaining the courage to create new original stories. nothing wrong with this, just predictable and not really what i'm in the mood for. i'm going to continue reading because i thin the world and the aestetics are genuinely interesting and we haven't even really dived...

extreme whose character journey will then be unraveling that faith/seeing the scary world for what it is. nothing against it, it's just sooo predictable and not capturing my attention at this current moment. i also really don't like that she keeps thinking about "what would orlando do" i get what it's doing as a literary device, but it's constant and repetitive and annoying. i know she's eventually going to have a...

some would maybe argue that it's building up intrigue about why kelli and rowan fell out (though i would say it's fairly obvious: kelli wanted to conform to inspiration's cultural norms and rowan wanted to break them) but that tension could easily be drawn out by just their characters in the present. i'm also a bit weary of kelli as an archetype of a character who's rule abiding/believing in the system to...

in third grade on how to use the ai to create stories (because creating and selling your own story would be copyright infringement becuase the ai company owns all ideas. again, chilling) but this idea could have been explored in the present timeline. as it stands, i groan whenever we go back because it's interrupting the main story, and i grow less and less interested every time we flip to the present again...

easier systems to live in. the fact that kelli is merely a "script supervisor," basically someone who polishes off scrpits that ai spits out... chilling. on the other hand, i really feel like the story is bogged down by the dual timeline. so much of the background and character motivation that the past establishes could easily and more storngly be established in the present. for example, they have a whole lesson...
