Total pre-Conciliar book. This guy would be happy he died before Vatican 2.
Polemical so far but I’m here for it. Really enjoying the book.
He gave a more balanced view of Henry VIII. For all Henry’s faults, he didn’t touch the liturgy, one of his few redeeming acts (or non-act). He started a “church” but he didn’t create a new liturgy which is fascinating. The Common Book of Prayer came after he died.

Brother Armbruster is my guy. Luddite stick in the mud is my cup of tea. (Irony intended for posting this on social media with my iPhone). I love the cognitive dissonance.

Jokes aside, I think I’m starting to see some of the thrust of the argument of the book. There have been a few scenes and conversations in part two that have made me think…

Kind of want to give fake reviews to mess with Kieran. Either that or give reviews as Kieran would. “Bro Francis is cooked”,

I forgot how deep this book is. There’s also a lot about fishing (shocking I know) which makes me want to fish. It’s so hard to put words to what happens during fly fishing but he explains it perfectly.

A book written by the son of a Presbyterian minister about fishing, but secretly about faith (perhaps unintentionally?). It’s going to be fun to wade through the Presbyterian view of man, nature and grace. I have a feeling he is going to argue for Catholic principles unintentionally😁.

Second time reading this book. First time I read it was freshman year. This is the book that got me back into reading!

If you’re not a Christian reading this book you must think Dante is evil for writing this😂😂

I believe in God more. Also in Hell more. I think this book is Divinely inspired. Not like the Scriptures, but less than the book of Jubilees or something akin to it.

Having a Catholic editor/translator makes all the difference in the world! They draw from the same font and realize they are ordered towards the same end

“The inferno is not, finally, a poem about wickedness and punishment, but about beautify and love: the terrible beauty of God which should arouse in man the most ardent love, and the ruin of beauty which the soul becomes when it turns that love elsewhere.”

I am one page in and I am hooked. There was more analysis of a person’s thoughts in one paragraph than most authors do in an entire book. I hope I can trust the narrator but I doubt I’ll be able to. I’m very excited.

I haven’t touched this book in a year. I’m going to read a different translation for Lent with Owen. So this is gonna be closed and DNF-ed.

This book is actually insane. Lewis is so sharp it’s unreal. It makes me angry he never became Catholic 😂

A lot of stuff about time that was cool but way over my head. Now we’re talking about creation. He’s had some really interesting interpretations that in some senses line up with modern science very well…and others that don’t, ha!
