i’m liking it so far!! the storytelling is a little cliche and predictable to me (those are the only words i can think of right now, may not be accurate) but it’s an interesting story.

this section verrry much reminded me that this is a second change romance book. i can feel it cominggg. jos’s jealous was real strong this section lmao. it was also interesting to see how everyone handled yas’s date, and learning more about why deja feels the way she feels about her mom.

this section was all about the importance of facing your issues, whether that be through therapy or otherwise. it was nice to see kasim’s early start and josiah’s late, but necessary, venture into therapy. it was also good to hear abt how the divorce came to be, and the ripple effects it had on the whole family. very informative section that really brought me into their world! (they still not over each other)

ravyn is starting Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot
the intro provided me with background on mikki kendall, as well as the difference between hood feminism and feminism (which is mainly for white women and less focused on action) and womanism (which can be exclusionary).

ravyn is on page 129 of 240 of All About Love: New Visions
the past few chapters have discussed spirituality, the love ethic, and greed, and how the lack of morals/values and the ever growing spotlight on individualism contribute to our culture of lovelessness. where there is no spirituality/connection to the soul, leading with love, or compassion for one another/communalism, there cannot be love.

the last two chapters discussed both truthfulness and self-love as important functions of love, and are vital to give and receive it. lying allows us to deprive one another of love due to the lack of open and honest communication. self-love can’t flourish and isolation and it is important that you give yourself the love you desire from others.

the book is so enlightening and is putting on paper many of the thoughts that i have had in regards to cultural perspectives of love, the lack of a central definition, and the ways in which children are treated as though they have no civil rights.
