This is so much better than I already expected it to be.

More almanacs in novels!

I can think of five reference points for this book: Gormenghast, perdido street station, the book of the new sun, the earthsea books, and Harry Potter. It sits kinda in the middle of all of them, but I read it cus I thought it would be gormenghast worship.

This book is so intense

I wish my volumes of Proust weren’t in storage in a separate continent thousands of miles away

The attempt to build an axiomatic system which represents human societies obviously feels laughable now but must have been quite exciting to those who read it for the next couple hundred years
