I am falling behind my goal for the year, but this book remains fascinating! (I just got a new job and I walk to work now and I keep getting looped into social lunches. Not making enough book time.)

Matt Casey is on page 43 of 325 of For the Love of Men: A New Vision for Mindful Masculinity
A great premise, but early on, Plank seems to try to get us laughing *at* some men’s insecure behaviour over the masculinity of our bodies.

I find otherwise progressive writers can be brutal for this, ie: thinking jokes about short, fat, etc. men are harmless as long as the subject’s a named bad guy like Trump.

That’s a misconception, and alienating to readers affected by the subject matter.

Picked this up because a book I was specifically looking for got borrowed between me leaving the office and me arriving at the library. Suffice to say, the qualitative study pursued here seems to absolutely defy a lot of preconceptions we hold as a society. I love when a book/study does that.

Tore through the first quarter of this and am eager to hear more.

Hey, uh, if you’re gonna get a book about the internet, maybe check what year it came out. Gonna keep reading for a while but not confident in a lot of takeaways beyond what we thought was going to happen.

My summer of fiction begins at last. And already, 37 pages in, I fall into the trap of “I should reeeally run an RPG in this universe.”

Matt Casey is on page 25 of 96 of She: Understanding Feminine Psychology
Partway through and it seems that Johnson’s framing of feminine psychology in this is entirely rooted in the relation to men and marriage. A little more skeptical of this one.
