This is how I know I’m getting picky when it comes to books but if she mentions one more time about how better looking her sister is than I’m dnf-ing. Entire pages have been dedicated to this. We get it you’re uglier than the troll under a toll bridge and models should be taking tips from your sister on how to be pretty - move on!

I swear I used to like historical romances but now they just irritate me. The main female character could literally be replaced by a sock puppet and you would never be able to tell the difference.

A reminder to little old me for later. If she forgives you know who this book is getting three stars I do not care how good the last 150 or so pages are. 🔪

There is something so annoying about a book that keeps asking questions. I swear this book would be ten times better if she stopped doing that. It’s an enjoyable read so far, very romantasy, tortured love interest, clumsy fmc, but I like that she’s not a perfect character either.

Currently remembering why historical romance is so difficult for me to deal with. Like I'm not asking for even a whole backbone just give me a nub of one FMC. And why does every single thing (character, person, situation) need to be described over and over again and in excruciating detail?

I’ll never, for the life of me, have a sure opinion on Gertie but this chapter when Kwadzo spoke his name? I’m crying. He remembered it. He got it back. ♥️

I’m surprised how much I don’t like this. I thought this would give me “A Man Called Ove” vibes but it’s just not as good as I thought it would be.

I haven’t even finished a full chapter and I will do two cartwheels if this isn’t a 5 star. It is dark, it is gothic (somehow?) and the writing? superb. I have such high hopes for this one! ♥️

A lot more honest than I expected, especially in regard to the Biden Administration and the way she handled picking a VP. Not that I thought she would lie but I worried this would be a fluff piece, and it does have its moments of sweetness, but Harris is incredibly blunt, and I find her honesty refreshing.

I suppose there's something poetic about starting these 105 days after a certain word entered office but I'm ready to read this book. And cry. I will cry.

I swear I've been reading this for years now. It's so depressing, it's so difficult to read, I thought a comprehensive book about a topic I already know about would help me get back into reading longer, harder books, especially nonfiction, but now I'm just sad and I really hate Stalin. Also Hitler. Also, Mussolini, some of the French, maybe even the British, the Americans too - this is making me hate everyone tbh.

I have been in a really bad reading slump so I'm going back to my roots. Mafia romances. Hopefully this will cure me.

34% - I have, in the past two days of reading, made 83 highlights, 32 notes and lost countless minutes literally just staring at the wall. The main thing I do with books that are historical, is to highlight and note it - to be sure that what I am reading is the truth, the whole truth (as much as I can get) and nothing but the truth, but this is just a very long read. I don't care what the pg. count says.
