Ok so yes, this is a 3-volume, 1800-page collection of 101 short stories, plus a preface, that I am enjoying but is going to seriously hamper my reading challenge progress. I am dipping in and out of it over the course of the year - obviously, it's too heavy to commute with. I am committed to finishing it by December 31! Watch this space.

Mike is on page 130 of 546 of The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History

Laying this one aside for now. Jill Lepore and Robert Caro really spoil me for reading histories by other writers. The book is lumpily organized, and the author has the unnverving habit of inserting the word "probably" into every paragraph, eg. "Walter Lippman probably wrote this column at the urging of Woodrow Wilson." I don't think Lepore or Caro ever used the word "probably" in their lives.
