Much I read is accompanied by an animated, excited 'yes, that's what I thought' but there is also food for further thought and epigrammatic material such as 'An evangelists fruit is not a convert, but more evangelists' (p111) that is challenging and, as with the book so far, needs a response of action.

I would like to gift a copy of this book to the many people who know that 'God is good, but life is hard' (p44) so they can also know that 'Lament is the language of people who believe in God's sovereignty, but live in world of tragedy' (p44).

The title was the reason I picked up this book. I didn't know the celebrity-author but now I feel like we've been chatting for a few days. I've learned a useful phrase and a meaningful action that, in her experience, leads towards health and wholeness: checking in. There are lessons for a life worth living shared in each chptr and the author does not shy away from pointing to God, His Word n His work in her life.

Definitely a read, pause, ponder, put into practice book. A timely read.

Insightful: I'm hearing echoes of stories I heard growing up but realising that I was spared most of the distressing realities in the retelling of the 1950s and 1960s reception of British Caribbean immigrants to England. This balanced history book makes the experience more vivid.

Really helpful book; it uses Bible passages and a simple structure to nurture a healthy prayer life.

I enjoy a chapter of this edited sermon series most evenings. While the blood pressure monitor cuff is squeezing my arm, the narrative and exposition of Joseph's life and learning is nourishing, feeding my heart and growing my faith. This easy reading, slow study of a familiar Old Testament character is thought-provoking and insightful.
