Best taken as slowly as possible. The writing gets rambly often. I enjoy a lot of stuff like that, so taking it in tiny doses has been more rewarding than if I were to attempt 20 pages daily or something. I pick it up here and there. It gets called masturbatory a lot, but I'd liken it more to an idle, almost mindless twiddle of the authors penis tween his forefingers: masturbation is too focused an act for comparison

Herbert's style is occasionally quite interesting and precise, but it's all so dry and dense with information. I find that I'm able to see the story with a lot of clarity and can blow through a lot of this in a single sitting, but I'm very unmotivated to finish it

I got a little over half way through before realizing that I do not care about this man. The writing is wonderful though, I may pick it back up for that reason; I have this nagging feeling that I'm dipping out right before it gets interesting, but Harry Crosby thus far I have found near aggressively uninteresting.
