For a 'virile adventure' (as opposed to 'pro-lesbian') pulp novel, this is...surprisingly appealing to me. I don't understand the people who say this was clearly written for men's pleasure when I don't get strong male-gazey vibes from it. Maaaybe it's because it was written by a woman? But then again lots of women write sickeningly male-gazey books.

It should be embarrassing that I'm unironically enjoying this. I feel no shame; sue me!!!

Genuinely the most boring writing style they could have picked to describe the most exciting people. I mean, c'mon, this level of indirect disrespect has got to be illegal or something.

It appears that books I own physical copies of don't excite me nearly as much as the vast catalogue of a certain archive website. Sorry Cookie, you're going on hold.

I'm so desperate for a good read that I've abandoned the wasteland that is my TBR. It was either this or reread another Sarah Dreher, which would have just been greedy.

I really like how old lesbian novels describe the concept of sex with men. It's not something I do personally (obvs!) but I can relate it to some trauma responses I experience. Reading pulp feels like going home.

Unfortunately just as slim and vinegary as the reviews say.

Reviews say this is depressing so I'm excited to tap into the true misery of being a teenager.

The plotline of white lesbians trying too hard to be politically correct under the guidance of a Pretendian is weirdly still relevant today. Also the designation of caffeine and alcohol as offensive by these same people. And the demonisation of medication. And the policing of disabilities. Etc etc.

It's so funny to me how Stone Butch Blues is the first book on the 'readers also enjoyed' bc I forget other people view mysteries as serious books not light giggling-kicking-my-feet filler reads.

I am currently writing a piece on the effects of SA inspired by Gary Indiana's Rent Boy, but I might be posting some old stuff while I get that ready,

The cycle of writing fiction to purge your trauma only to have to read stuff that's triggering to research your portrayal of trauma only to have to write fiction to let off the steam you gained from the research. Starting to think I may be the problem.

I thought I should give a PSA as someone who has seen relatable SA rep in only ~5 books out of the THOUSANDS I've read in my life. Please have more empathy for your fellow humans. Behind the facade of a 'sex negative' person could be a survivor and calling them prudish is never ok.

I fear this will be the first Emily R. Austin book I don't rate 5 stars. I guess it's my fault for spoiling the major Margit revelation but in my defence the format doesn't allow for much show-not-tell about Greta's situation.
