Actually more chill than I expected. It probs won't be a 4 or 5 star because I can't meaningfully engage with media about child sexual abuse whilst recovering from a mental health crisis about the abuse I faced...but at least I am finally reading THE Toni Morrison after borrowing n returning her books unread from the library for years.

I thought this was gonna eat but it got too sad too soon and the only way it can make up for this is to include more lesbian kissing which I fear might not happen. ARRRGH!

Reading a book about Black girlhood whilst having an existential crisis about how I, as a Black girl, did not have a childhood. 100% by accident too since I can't control when my library's reserves come in.

Would any of my friends be interested in beta reading my short story and providing constructive feedback? It's about a femme lesbian coping with hypersexuality and trauma (very much NOT autofiction or memoir). The closest comparison to a published work would be Notice by Heather Lewis. Not done yet but looks like it'll be <5000 words. Comment for more info cuz of the character limit.

Genuinely might rate this one star because it's so painfully meandering and pretentious. Also annoyed to find it on archive.org after paying for it.

To think I could've lived my whole life without seeing a vulva referred to as a "salty hairy organ". Thanks Eileen!

It's so icky to find out that Dennis Cooper is a CSA apologist after taking his work as inspiration. Supporting a living author who endorses something I spend my life advocating against feels sickening. Like no a 10-year-old dating a 40-year-old is never good wtf.

I would DNF if I hadn't felt pressured into spending money on it last year. As soon as I left the shop I knew I wouldn't like it.

Someone should sue Lucy Dacus for libel because this is not "depression incarnate". Reviews that say not to read a book if you are [insert mental illness] need to be banned actually.

I can tell this is gonna be a slog; even their writing style in the introduction is hard to read.

Additional CW for mentions of suicidal ideation!!
I'd appreciate feedback but if you found it unbearably cringey maybe don't tell me.

This author definitely got the girlfriend-killing-a-pet plotline from Ann Bannon's books.

Y'all gotta start considering how terms like 'sex-negative' place value judgments on people + are used to police things that could be trauma responses; if u use them u are actively contributing to the marginalisation of survivors! Personally the common use of such terms has made me so so ashamed about my hypersexuality because I feel scapegoated for admitting that sex =/= fun intimacy for me. Think before u type pls.

Two Serious Ladies
This is a prime example of a book getting published and endorsed simply because its author is from an affluent background. Maybe it was fine in 1943, but any author/organisation providing bite-sized cover quotes for this in the big 21st century has thoroughly embarrassed themselves.

I get that it's satire and I'm by no means trying to dog on the author but I cannot stomach hearing Black men talk about Black women like they aren't even people. Everyone has preferences but if you prefer white-looking lightskins then I've pretty much got your number right away...

Everyone talks about intersectional feminism but I hate being at the intersection (mainly trying to convince white leftists that, no, they don't know everything about race). Just had to hold someone's hand and explain to them the difference between the experiences of monoracial and mixed-race Black people only to find that they criticised
Dykette
for being un-queer in its adherence to butch/femme.

Timeout y'all. Why did they just call sexual interactions between a butch in her early teens and a 'very experienced feminine woman' lovemaking? Pretty sure that's rape...

I may or may not be a high femme but the way of these stone butches talk about wanting to please their fems is so wonderful. Gosh are the non-stones mean about it though. Clearly 'different strokes for different folks' was a foreign concept in the '50s.

Ok so let's not try to change butches we're dating into more feminine people. Charlie is wild for that.

Petition to stop authors telling us characters' exact skin tone (cuz what the hell is russet brown) and LEGALLY BAN them from including eyes that change colour. No clue what I expected from a prison novel by a Harvard grad but it wasn't Wattpad-level description.
