I've been trying to read more Black lesbian books and this is the most enjoyable one so far this year. We are officially out of the slump!!! Three cheers please (that's an order).

We need a contract in which all authors agree not to casually refer to women as 'females'. Might take a star off for this because it's getting on my nerves.

I think you guys should read this.

When I become Grand High Leader of the World we will have audiobooks blasting full volume out of every speaker bc rn widespread media illiteracy and lack of critical thinking has my special interest in words working against me. Darn.

I'm going to be giving this three stars for historical importance but I want y'all to know I do NOT vibe with it. I would eat it up if it was pre-Stonewall pulp but I feel like we should've matured a bit by the early '70s. Need more books by Black lesbians that are my genre so I don't have to feel bad about disliking stuff like this and Rosewater (yuck).

I'm against book burning so I'll have to settle for rating this one star.

I wish we had some standardisation of cover image sizes on here. Every time I look at my 2026 reading challenge those 3 small covers next to all of the normal-sized ones make me want to burst into tears. Pretty please help an autist out, Goodreads.

Ok, so. She just raped her girlfriend. I'm used to plot points like this in lesbian pulp but this book was published well into the 1970s.

Was everyone at Naiad Press mentally well? Was Ms. Shockley ok? I understand that consent is complicated, but did she really have to write in 3 instances of Terry saying no AND have Renay push her down onto the bed????

Reading for school so it's boring, natch.

This is getting 1 star for playing into rape culture and excusing the love interest's patronising, over-privileged takes. Hate review is already half written.

Truly a hate read. Why are we acting as if this irritating love interest has any desirable qualities besides using her middle class privilege to offer the MC a place to stay? It's ok for people to be useful...we don't have to always pretend they're worthy of our friendship.

The love interest is so annoying...I pray on the downfall of this relationship even though it hasn't started yet.

I have officially laughed out loud in public to this (to a joke about a Christmas present, not a gory scene).

The writing reminds me of a half-finished romance novel I wrote aged 11-12...

I really do not like reading stuff that brings back repressed memories of my old projects (which at the time I bravely imagined were something near to litfic).

I'm keeping track of all the groups I belong to that are mentioned (read: maligned) by Patrick Bateman. So far, we have Black people being subtly looked down upon, lesbians being fetishised and autism being...mentioned but not insulted? Rarely have I read about a more engaging MC. I actually love this.

I'm being deadly serious when I say that anyone who is able to* must read Notice by Heather Lewis. The most important depiction of what child sexual abuse can do to someone that I've ever read, if not the most important, well...ever.

I've written a whole review in my notes app already. Can finally relax and wait for my copy to arrive at the local Waterstones so I can read in peace.

Screaming clawing at my scalp...I can't find this free online and I have to wait for my copy to arrive. Only read the free sample and I'm already attached.

One more thing: I can tell who came from Criminolly's video by how much they whine about it being/not being horror.

I haven't started reading yet but I suspect that the people calling this the most disturbing book ever are missing the damn point.

Idek what page I'm on because I'm not reading this in order but there is a scene where 4 lesbians kiss a woman's pussy goodbye before she gets married to a man (1960s). It would be so fun to actually watch these plays.

We should totally be allowed to block books on here. There are some books that I would pay for the privilege to never see again, regardless of whether one of my best friends is posting updates on them.
