I need to hop back on the bible, i finished the gospels back in september, it’s the good book, whatever, nothing matters ultimately; Ecclesiastes and Job were my Tom Sawyer, to paraphrase Nick Caraway

Reading this and thinking quite a bit about people acting out or otherwise being “possessed” by forces only somewhat within comprehension, these acheaens and trojans moved not just by principles of pride and honor but also the scheming of the gods to exultantly, orgasmically, recapitulate their own slaughters…princes, puppets, pawns, diomedes fights the gods !

Quentin may be one of the more interesting Modern characters, in the style of Pierrot. It’s interesting how this story is filtered through him, knowing what we do of him through The Sound and the Fury. Side note: Sutpen appears to be a very similar startup character that appears in literature of the americas, Barry Lydon, Gatsby, Saul Goodman, florentino ariza.

I’m not exactly sure where I got this french language version of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, a book which was originally written in Czech but first published only in french translation. I’ve had this french version on my shelf for a long time, greater than seven or eight years, and i’ve never even cracked it open, nor do I even remember from what used bookstore I got it. Carthago Delenda Est.

Vaguely interesting, expatriate, gritty, noiresque. Cabalistic in nature, and so at times obscure, but i appreciate these games of words and parables. A somewhat appealing mixture of Borges and Hemingway. In this way very modern, to the point of feeling unoriginal and bit played out. Maybe a bit too macho. We will see if this changes or gets worse.

Rereading this book and having something of a revelation about its lessons and power.

RW is starting V. by Thomas Pynchon (1995-02-16)
At first I disliked the cluttered style and lack of realistic psychological depth, but about halfway through, i am becoming more and more convinced that I was not lied to, and this is really a masterwork. A play of symbols and archetypes and delusions. literal underground conspiracies, spies, rockets, bums, sewer alligators. Wow! And of course much more horror surrounding V.
