So far the cover design is the absolute highlight - BUT enjoying the premise, the light body horror and the mystery, definitely intriguing enough to keep reading

I’ve been waiting to dive into this!
The intrigue of the story draws you in from the very beginning, and I instantly love the main characters.

Halfway through and I'm still hoping it will get better, more engaging, more unusual.
The characters are archetypes (folk hero, evil wizard, wise queen etc) so it would really help to have more personality and quirks in the story.
Yandira so far is such a one-dimensional, flat villain that I find myself frustrated with how much space she has in this book vs much more interesting characters.

If you've seen the movie "Tár", you might find many similar themes between it and this novel, however "Yellowface" is handling the unreliable, morally rotten protagonist so, so much better.

I love me an unlikeable protagonist / unreliable narrator.

Sure, Jennette McCurdy describes her trauma with a dose of dark humour and distance which implies years of therapy, but I'm not sure why people describe this book as "funny". It's heartbreaking and at times bittersweet.
