If you told me to read a quiet study of a British family's life in 1600's I would probably tell you it's too boring of a concept and yet... The prose is so stunning, the approach to the story so gentle — or at least Jessie Buckley's narration makes it sound so. I'm trying to catch every detail. And I ache with the characters

Unfortunately I think this proves once again that horror/thriller is not really for me. There's so much that I find unnecessary and it effects my enjoyment of the book...

I don't want to be saying this but somehow this is more juvenile than I expected. I knew it's YA but the way people talked about it I thought it's about broader themes and that a mote universal experience of friendship would be touched upon. Thus far it's just a YA story, a good one, but not remarkable per se

Soooo gripping! I love the concept, I've been dying for the exploration of soulmates going wrong. This is fantastic. Sure, maybe not as diverse or sensitive as it could be but it is good enough to compensate for the weaker moments. Might become a personal favorite

It's actually... softer than I expected? I might even say I'm enjoying myself. Of course it's not free of misogyny but I prefer it when male characters are more realistic and wear their flaws on their sleeve. The setting is flashed out and I appreciate the natural build-up of the relationship between the main characters
