The Irrevocable Words is an insane chapter. The Seanchan finally make their first big move after lurking in the background for multiple books and take over Amadicia. It is implied that Morgase is raped by Valda, which was extremely jarring to read as she attempts to put the trauma behind her. She has probably suffered and lost more than any other main character, which is probably what leads her to silently abdicate.

Nynaeve and Elayne finally thank and apologize to Mat for his daring rescue in the Stone of Tear. This made me think back to book three and how far his character has developed since then. Once by far my least favorite of the three taveren, to now a POV that i am always delighted to return to, on par with the other two main males. Ever since the dice started rolling in his head he has become a pleasure to read.

Mat is attacked by assassins at the inn he’s staying at. Elaida’s ambassadors decide to bide their time before sending messages back to the tower. Rand attempts to send Berelain back to Mayene, but is interrupted by a condescending Aes Sedai named Cadsuane who is Green Ajah and claims to have fought more male channelers than any of the Red Ajah. She makes him question his madness, if Lews Therin is real or not.

Mat bets on a horse race and wins. He tracks the assassin that tried to kill him and Rand in book 1 to a palace borrowed by Carridin. Darkfriends are also looking for the Bowl of the Winds, under Sammael’s orders. Insects is another phenomenal chapter with great lines and paragraphs to remember.

The Bowl of the Winds, a chapter completely from Aviendha’s POV, where the characters meet with Seafolk to discuss finding the weather ter’angreal. Elayne and Nynaeve bargain with a Mistress of Ships (akin to a Queen in Ath’an Miere society) and a mysterious old man who seems her equal. They also meet a Windfinder who asks silly questions about the Aiel and a Wavemistress who claims Birgitte knows their culture

A Morning of Victory: Gareth Bryne makes it clear his army belongs to Egwene. The Band led by Talmanes trails them. Siuane reveals that Lan’s bond has been passed to Myrelle without his consent, which is akin to rape. Lan is sent to Nynaeve, in the hope that such a mission will keep him alive. Theodrin, Faolain, Nisao, and Myrelle swear oaths to Egwene.

Egwene enters Nynaeve’s and Elayne’s dreams to warn them about the blackmail and to stay in Ebou Dar. She meets with the Wise Ones to tell them she is now Amyrlin and to ask what she can about Rand. She also has many dreams that foretell the future. The chapter ends with her saying she will do what must be done, echoing the words that also mark the end of many Rand chapters.

A woman who channels Saidin frees Moghedien. Sheriam secretly sent an embassy of Aes Sedai to Elaida. There is a Tower Law that prevents the Amyrlin from putting herself in danger besides during a time of war, which stops Egwene from going directly to Rand. Nicola, a novice, and Arribas, a Hunter for the Horn, attempt to blackmail Egwene. She struggles to feed her army.

Rand will finally send his largest army gathering at the Plains of Maredo towards Illian, to engage with Sammael. Lady Dyelin proclaims herself as regent for Elayne, in a surprising act of acquiescence. She hangs traitors who proclaim themselves for the Lion Throne.

I’ve been thinking this a lot lately, but A Broken Crown is one of the best chapters in The Wheel of Time thus far. The text is covered in veiled, frenzied fear, perceivable only because of Perrin’s heightened sense of smell. The fear comes from all the nobles within the Grand Hall of the Sun Throne who bear witness to Rand’s judgement and exile of the usurper Colavaere. Too many memorable lines to even count.

Colavaere has crowned herself Queen of Cairhien. The Tairen and Cairhienin rebels are gathering to the south of the city. Many of the Aiel are leaving, thinking Rand has been captured or bent his knee to the Aes Sedai.

Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again… There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.” woohoo lets do this again

Elaida demands Elayne and Nynaeve are brought to her, and Ewgene stilled for posing as the Amyrlin Seat. Sevanna escapes the battle of Dumai’s Wells. Alviarin pledges herself directly to Mesanna who lurks in the White Tower. Pedron Niall is assassinated by Omerna, who is then killed by Eamon Valda, the true orchestrator of the murder alongside Asunawa, the High Inquisitor. Valda will be named Captain Commander.

The Sending may be my favorite chapter of this book. Being in the POV of my favorite wolf lord Perrin is probably why. He gathers an army of Mayener Winged Guards, Dobraine’s Cairhienin soldiers, Two Rivers Men, Aielmen and Maidens, aes Sedai, and of course, wolves to chase down the Tower witches that have taken Rand. Robert Jordan must have missed writing Perrin chapters because this is a long one. Worth the wait

Rand is captured by the Tower Aes Sedai. At least 15 ambushed him. Elayne encounters a Domani wilder in the Rahad of Ebou Dar. Mat unknowingly dices with a Seanchan man (I think).Egwene secretly plans to free Logain before he is gentled. Lan is now bonded to Myrelle, and appears before her.

Elayne and Nynave meet with Tylin, Queen of the Winds in Altara. She takes a liking to them and agrees to help in finding the ter’angreal. With two new arrivals, thirteen Aes Sedai are now in Caemlyn, so Rand flees to Cairhien with Perrin, Loial, Faile, and 500 Maidens. The Salidar embassy falls apart, some bringing the two rivers girls to Salidar and some heading to Cairhien.

Min and the Salidar embassy arrive in Caemlyn. Rand gives the men who can channel ranks and badges. They begin as soldiers, then Dedicated, and finally, Asha’man, or Guardians. The badges are of a silver sword and a golden dragon. Mat and the band arrive at Salidar, and Egwene forces him to join Elayne and Nynaeve on their trip to Ebou Dar.

Egwene is raised to the Amyrlin Seat with Sheriam as her Keeper of the Chronicles.

Egwene meets her toh for lying to the Wise Ones and the apprentices by letting herself be lashed by them all. Once over, they say tearful goodbyes and treat her with love and respect. She enters the World of Dreams in the flesh and rides Bela to Salidar. Sheriam and her group tell Egwene that they plan to make her the next Amyrlin Seat. Rand sends Mat and the band to Salidar to retrieve Elayne.

Egwene tries to board the Sea Folk ship but is thrown off, mistaken for one of Elaida’s Aes Sedai. In the Telaranrhiod version of the Stone, Egwene is summoned to the Hall of the Tower to await judgement. Siuan conjures a map to Salidar for her, which accidentally gives Rand the directions too, since no one knows he is secretly watching.

Nynaeve heals Siuan and Leane. They are now Aes Sedai again. A mysterious woman named Halima arrives in Salidar, clearly a dark friend. She presents herself to a friend of Siuan, Delana Sedai, who is secretly Black Ajah.

Thom and Juilin return to Salidar. Nynaeve heals Logain by bridging “something that has been cut” with fire and spirit.

Sulin has become a Caemlyn palace servant because she has great toh. Rand received letters from two Sea Folk wavemistresses and from the Queen of Ghealdan. A gray man tries to kill him. Taim says he is training a man with much potential in the power. Padan Fain lurks, he was the one that orchestrated the assassination attempt using white cloaks.

Rand learns some history of the first king and queen of Andor from a noblewoman. He meets with three Aes Sedai while Egwene listens secretly while invisible in a weave of Saidin.

Egwene has learned Moiraine’s spying trick. She runs into Gawyn, they confess their love for each other, Ewgene assures him Elayne is alive and safe, and promises to provide proof that Rand did not kill Morgase. Gawyn promises to protect her, and even betray the Tower for her if he must. The tower aes Sedai politic with the Tairen and Cairhienin lords against Rand. Six Aes Sedai are present, but more trickle in.

The Aes Sedai sent by Elaida arrive in Cairhien.

Mat and the band come across the remains of Tinkers who were slaughtered. Then they are attacked by Aiel trying to assassinate Mat. Aes Sedai travel on the other side of the Erinin. Sammael manipulates Graendal into telling him that Mesaana is in the White Tower.

Loial’s mother, bride-to-be, and Elder shaman have come from the stedding to bring him home. If he stays outside any longer he may die. They show Rand locations of steddings across the world, and Rand asks them if they can show him the waygate in Aridhol, or Shadar Logoth, if he takes them there.
