This book compares modern society to past social norms. The author finds that wars and tribalism tend to bring people closer together. Whether it is the natives or old communities in Europe, people had lower suicidal rates and better mental health rates than during times of peace. The communal aspect of life is important—the more individualistic or monetarily well off people become the more people suffer mentally.

I was under the impression that this book was more psychological than political, but I enjoyed the perspective that the author had. I am more in the middle politically, but she went in depth on some of the surgeries abortions & the trans community undergo & it changed my view on whether it is truly loving to let people go through them. I don’t think I agree with the part on immigration but it’s worth the read.
