addictive cycles are not ab the objects (shoes, food, cigs), but a desire to conceal negative feelings from our awareness.

must learn how to tolerate negative affect, not conceal it. mindfulness creates a safe place for these feelings

in the SSC, one sees shamanically, aka visualizing, imaging, or “using the strong eye.” 🧿🧿🧿

science and shamanism are both aimed at understanding the universe !!!

The shaman is forever trying to articulate his personal revelatory experiences ((Downloads)) as though they were pieces of a great cosmos jigsaw puzzle.
- the master shaman has the ability to fit other people’s experiences into this cosmic puzzle & make sense of them.

The guardian spirit is a power animal - utilized as a power source for the shaman’s functioning.
The main difference between an ordinary person is that the shaman uses his guardian spirit actively when in an altered SSC.

Clairvoyance - seeing what is going on elsewhere at the present moment.

Shamans are especially healers, but also engage in divination seeing into the past, present, and future for other members of the community.

Balanced ascetism if often misunderstood, seen as a type of self-punishment or denial. It’s actually a search for true joy and happiness by putting aside, where possible, what we don’t need especially when we’ve become addicted or dependent.

our culture celebrates youth, beauty, success, and a type of homogenized happiness based on accumulation of greed. we hide the elderly in assisted-living facilities and nursing homes, the sick in hospitals. The dead are whisked away and dressed up to look like they’re sleeping and the poor are ghettoized.

two types of suffering
1. those we can not control (dying, aging, sickness)
2. self centered thought, why me?? escapist ideation. addiction to distractions.

We should begin to realize that in the same way, we have a hunger pain signal. We also have a thirst pain signal in the body.
