I LOVE this. It's a very informative read from a Protestant author who studied church history and blends the Catholic, Orthodoxy, and Protestants together (the early church historical roots, and to not hold much prejudice from one denomination to the other). It sucks to read the bad parts, but then the good during the evil times was inspiring.

Okay, actually I love this book so far. It's a casual read with almost the fall vibes that scream 90s high school horror rom-com? Kinda like Scooby-Doo meets Goosebumps and a chick flick. I enjoy the references that are par with the setting (1999) and the witty humor. I didn't know if I was going to enjoy this, but I really am. I switch on and off between audio and reading, or both.

Going great, a teensy bit predictable, but still a comfy and enjoyable read! A good start for my cozy aimed reads for this month.

Passed some great, wonderful scenes. I’m almost there! Some shocks, some surprises, some heartbreak and a little relief here and there. I get false hopes that things work out for Kaine and Helena. I’m practically crossing my fingers at this point.

I’m attached. So freaking attached. At this point I’m just wishing the slap in the face would happen right now so that way I don’t experience it like 200 pages or so later.

Reading the transcript while I’m watching the Chernobyl incident. Wow. Just wow.

I fear I’m becoming attached. Anyway, it’s 1 am and I have to babysit my former professor’s kids in a few hours. This is going to be great! Anyway, I’m obsessed. I’m not ready for the turmoil, I know it’s coming. The ups and downs are literally quite real, and I can feel the sense of dread happening soon.

Part One - confusion, conflict, some dark scenes have happened. In Part Two, things are clinking together like a puzzle. Things are making sense. I'm quite attached, but always on edge because I can tell things are about to go down. Why did I choose a book that has me alert with each page-turn? I just KNOW something is about to happen. I'm not ready.

Ignorance is bliss. I began reading this book without the knowledge that there was a predecessor to this world and its characters. I did not know that it was a fan fiction to Harry Potter, specifically Draco and Hermione. This book is quite dark, but not super disturbing to me despite the trigger warnings. I like how she removed any likeness (for legal purposes) of the fanfic, but now it’s original. We will see.

Finished Book One! His discussion and reflection of infancy and as a young boy is truly fascinating to me. He realizes his wrongs, praises God, and takes on such a personable and inquisitive approach, as if when he wrote his thoughts that he grew more curious. That he grew more devoted to Him.

Finished reading the introduction, timeline, and gotten a good chunk of the first book (or section) down. I love how Saint Augustine wrote, and the flow of his writing. He was not afraid to be quite inquisitive, asking questions and making observations. As he goes on, he somehow turns it to where he praises the Lord despite his past. There’s quite a bit in this reflection, and so far — it’s rather beautiful.

I’m a forensic science nerd, and so I am intriguingly surprised of this novel and the technology and methods they used in the Victorian era in Scotland. I’m enjoying this with each page! Love the main female character.
