It's written well, but it's very short and feels unfinished. The Afterword definitely adds context

Love the dark and sinister vibes so far: Amren, Nesta, Bone dude thing, lonely library voice... This was not what I expected after Book 1 and 2

I'm hooked. SJM cooked with the war spy plot.

My main takeaway was "talking to yourself can be self-compassion... as in self-kindness, non-judgemental mindfulness, and also show a connection to the larger human experience"....

For example, saying/thinking "This reaction makes sense. I’m trying to keep myself safe. A lot of people would probably feel the same way. This is understandable."

Also, exploring how "the opposite of control is trust" was interesting.

I think it's time to buy a plant

Her writing is top tier. But I'm angry at myself for pushing through the hundreds of pages of BS. First and last 150 pages stapled together would've made a legendary composition. It's unfortunate that a big chunk of the book contained what felt like repetitive, stereotypically depicted, and cartoonishly woeful moments that took me out of the immersion. Isn't this a metaphor for what little of a life we even have?

Ngl, I'm not sure why it's so popular. But I really enjoyed how the author injected so many relevant socio-cultural topics into not just the plot but also character development. Pretty cool to see that in a time-travel book. Bonus points for pulling a Smeyer with the "infinitesimally" toward the end.

Ok.. this is a really nice read. Wish they had done this with the Alaskan Coven
