The bugs weren't mentioned until almost halfway into the book.

This book is full of surprises. I certainly was not expecting philosophical discussion.

Shit suddenly got real.

I found Chapter 1 to be a bore. Perhaps the intention was an action packed hight tension opening, but without the connection with the protagonist established, it just felt like a superhero movie punch up without consequences.

So glad I stuck it out until Chapter 2, where we got to know the narrator more.

That reveal was a little too obvious. I'm expecting there to be multiple layers of curtains.

That was a great but oh so difficult scene. I suspected the outcomes, but it is still sad to see it come to pass.

Not since The Newsroom have I had a chance to follow a story through the eyes of reporters. That inspiring TV show had a team of writers, which made the writing in this book more impressive because it was written by one person, possibly with some help from her editor.

For a story about the zombie apocalypse, the tone is fairly upbeat. The scary part for me is all the predictions and social commentaries in the book are coming true. I hope we don't get zombies next.

The setup of this book is so amazing, especially when you know what's coming in the main series. I can only imagine the heartbreak.

It will be a huge let down if this book failed to wrap all these backstory elements up tidily.

Just started Sunrise On The Reaping.

Maybe I'm biased because I already kinda knew Haymitch, but this book felt much better written than the prequel.

The characters are so easy to connect with and love. It's going to hurt when they die.

When I was young, I hated spring onions in my food (still do). My mom would try to slip it into my fried rice, "because it's good for you".

I have a suspicion that the author is trying to slip romantasy, and maybe a love triangle past me.

The 10th anniversary version is definitely an improvement over the original version. The story flows more smoothly.

Please don't make these two relationships turn into enemies to lovers. Friends I can take, just not lovers. That would have been too much of Stockholm Syndrome.

I started this for Halloween. I wanted a fun read like Dungeon Crawler Carl. While both books have a similar setup, this one is lacking the humour big time.

Edit out the sexual tension and falling for the bad guy tropes and this could have been a best selling YA fantasy book. The action and pacing so far have been good.

Could just be that I'm finally settling into the book but I feel like the later stories were more substantial and better than the earlier ones. My favourite stories so far are the Japanese American internment camp and the alien terrorist.

I started this book because I want to know what will happen in season 2 of Pantheon if the show has not been prematurely cancelled. Nothing so far.

Boat scene. Not sure if I want to continue. I'm a fan of Dexter because I know what to expect. This was completely unexpected.

I started this book based on its reputation. I have seen the movie adaptation starring Matt Damon.

About a third way into the book, I'm not liking the single-white-gay-male trope. Can't imagine it being allowed in our modern very politically correct world.

The fight scene was awesome. Technically, it's possible in X-Men which is probably why I love X-Men.

I started this book on a roadtrip to Singapore Chilli Crab and Red Curry Lobster pies. The pie' s crust was a little disappointing this time around but the book was better than The Geek Who Saved Christmas. Also, this felt more like a YA than expected.

So far so fun.

Having alternate chapters and with the two protagonists both showing their interest so soon kinda took away the mystery and fun of will they, won't they.

Halfway through the book, I'm feeling a little disappointed that this has not lived up to my VERY HIGH expectation.

All the right ingredients are there. The execution just seems to lack the necessary momentum to propel the story to the next level.

Huda is supposed to be kinda smart and fun. Only some of that came through the older Akael looking to her for leadership. However, I'm just not in the mood for another evil/exploitative aunt storyline.

These kids are supposed to be smart enough to steal credit card and money for this overseas trip but they can't come up with another way to contact their parents because the aunt has the only phone in the house?

The story was kinda cute until it turned into Annie.

That twist. I did not see it coming.

For the first half of the book, this felt like just another zombie apocalypse story. The superhero angle has not been utilised well. Fortunately, this PZ storyline might just be the thing needed to kick this series to the next level.

Feels like a retelling of Jane Eyre or maybe a dark version of The Secret Garden.

The letters were heartbreaking.

Nevernight meet Three Musketeers. I'm feeling this will be a 4.5 Stars read. Great fun for most of the time apart from the slight dip in the first third.

As a fan of Heartstopper I thought it was time I started this book. I recently read that this book was being compared to The Perks of Being a Wallflower (love) and The Catcher in the Rye (hate).

The Charlie in this book is not same one I remembered. Something about Michael Holden reminds me of Holden Caulfield. Tori is giving off the unreliable narrator vibe.

I hope I don't end up hating this book.
