WHAT THE ACTUAL *FUCK* IS THIS BOOK???!?!??!!

I was kinda enjoying the lowkey psycho vibes of Irina like she was braver than all of us doing all these things

but it's gotten SO CRAZY in the last chapter!!!!! NOW we're getting into actually unstable and unreliable narrator. but even! what the FUCK is going onnn????

Ethan is of course Bad but of course Not but he needs to be Bad for now.
I love the comedy bits where she most certainly does NOT look at his abs.
we are just getting started but I'm liking it so far

after a bit of a break, I am back to being addicted and excited to finish this book.

currently, I'm ngl, Ravyn and Elspeth's intensity is a little bit annoying (bc it's gotten them into trouble) but it's not that big of a deal. and then I love Ione and Elm together (even though maybe it was 2nd book only thing).

idk I have some thoughts but not too many, we will see what happens

...and pretty healthy kingdom, nothing to improve on as the book goes on.

also at first I was kinda disappointed that the protagonist's love interest is the kings housing (and not son) but I have to assume all Rowans will have to die at the end, so that will make it much better (rip Elm tho, even though he's annoying, he is on the good side of this)

ok ok I LOVE the fact that it's Ravyn that's the Captain and not the Prince, and the fact that he's better at combat (even though Hauth uses the Black Horse).
I think this should be a rule in fantasy kingdoms. that princes can't be the highest ranking officials. that would teach them a little humility and disperse the power not to just the royal family. but I guess that would make a pretty good and pretty healthy....

oh ok one gripe I have with this book is the names!!! the author LOVES putting y's in places where they shouldn't go! like why do we have an Alyx, a Jespyr, a Ravyn, and a Petyr; if those names exist in a normal version!!! that is one thing I will not get over. don't try to quirkify regular names pls!

ain't no way I'm half way done with this book. feels like it's just getting started.

I really like it so far.

I did see somewhere that it was labeled as "Spicy 🔥". but besides the fact that Eva is an erotica writer nothing even remotely spicy has happened.

also Audre is feeling mega guilty abt being the reason her mom is unhappy and that makes me so sad for her (also I think she's gonna run away)

it is ROUGH. I'm trying my absolute bestest to get through this and even though I only have less than 100 ebook pages, I'm STRUGGLING. I am kinda invested in the story so I will finish it, but I really just want it to be over. it's not terrible, it's just meh and I wanna move on already (after like a 3 month break)

I'm still enjoying this book (pretty sure) but I'm not gonna lie, it feels like it hit a plateau...
like I understand that there's things to solve and decisions to make and conversations to have, but it just feels like the character have done some growth in the beginning a little bit and now we're just witnessing their lives as it's happening...
like that's ok but starting to get a tiny bit boring..

ok at first, I absolutely HATED the way the author writes. like WHAT DO U MEAN U DONT BELIEVE IN QUOTATION MARKS??? and also the whole thing about sometimes not having a subject in a sentence was CRAZY.
now though, I think I'm enjoying it. definitely the chapters with Ivan and Margaret. Peter's chapters a little less. it definitely seems like I'm just reading a crazy person's thought process.

this book (or I guess the writing style) feels like I'm reading some crazy person's word vomit. like a person's stream of consciousness spilled on a page. things just happen to the characters, and some sentences have no subject. it kinda makes me feel crazy too.... I'm not sure if I hate it or like it

SO stressful.
so basically, they're at their one last hurrah, their only chance at freedom, but their plan has already been disclosed to Van Eck. so they haven't even started, and they're already doomed to fail...

I will say, in not sure if I'm reading for the plot, just because I'm bored, or to keep up my reading streak (today is day 19). it can't be denied that this book is taking me longer than the first one. but I was so invested in the first one and the beginning of this one, but it's been noticeably gone slower. maybe it's just bc the novelty of it just wore off...

I don't know if I have much more to say about the book. I'm interested in how the night's gonna go and how they're gonna make Van Eck pay. I only wonder how it's gonna go bad (because somehow it obviously will) and how it's gonna be in the end. so a lot of generic thoughts, nothing special

now i know that freeing Inej was barely the beginning of the book. now they have a whole plan on freeing all the Grisha from Ketterdam and having Van Eck pay for what he did. and if I learned anything from the last book, I know that that can take them the rest of the book (plus I'm like a third...

i am enjoying it quite a bit.
however, they're saving Inej right now. what is gonna happen for the rest of the book?
and like ik I've said that in the past and the book has been perfectly exciting the whole way through, but I'm just interested what's gonna happen

the plot is really trotting along and they're actually going into the ice court. pretty crazy.

I am actually invested. the nicknames are still very cheesey and I hope they don't use them too much, but I'm curious on how they're gonna do it and what obstacles they're going to have to overcome

my thoughts in chronological order so far:
1. WAY too many names. i know this is the beginning of a fantasy book so there's a fair about of world building but omg this is way too much. too many people, too many streets, canals, buildings, occupations, currency, etc.
2. I absolutely HATE their nicknames. Dirtyhands is just cringe and Inej is calling herself the Wraith way too often

so they're officially friends now. and I will say, I kinda saw it coming, but also not at the same time. idk, I'm interested to see how it plays out (even tho I know they'll be together by the end but ig I'm interested to see how their friendship plays out and of they have any slip ups)

they kissed! I mean of course they did... but at the same time I'm so glad they kissed this early on so they have more time thinking about it and maybe doing something about it (if u know what I mean)

while everything that's happening is cliche and predictable, I'm still enjoying it. it may be because it's an Emily Henry book, but it's fun either way so it doesn't matter. and all that being said, I wouldn't mind a plot twist I didn't see coming...

I did not know however that they will be fake dating first. but I like it

I also think Miles is cool asf. like the way he reacted to her telling him that from now on they're dating is priceless. he just said "cool" lol
