This was very atmospheric and very vividly rendered. I could feel a lot of the moments in this book but I didn’t necessarily feel a lot of the characters but maybe that’s a difficult task given how short of a time we are with them. Well written, stark, and memorable more for how it feels than who or even what it’s about.

The writing style here is fairly simple, but the premise is intriguing enough to make up for it. The elements of historical fiction weren’t too dense and felt organic to the story. The story kept me engaged throughout and even if I sometimes wanted a little more depth, the ideas carried it. A clever, enjoyable read.
