Very interesting premise so far. I truly enjoy the magic arcana and ways that the world is built. I’m not the biggest gothic fan…but I have hopes this novel will be a pleasant surprise. Some grammar irks me at times (seems novice but then advanced), but that’s okay! I’m hoping I’ll like this.

Truly love Haven so far. The story is unbelievably touching and so far of an improvement compared to the first installment. I’ve already found myself feeling for the characters and anticipating their relationship.

I liked it but found it was short in world-building, the plot was set up very nicely for the next few books and Alizeh’s storyline/arc but I feel like in the 500 pages I absorbed not much happened.

I love the lyrical style of Mafi’s writing. I am intrigued by the plot and the politics, as well as the fleshed-out characters she offers, however, I find it lacking in the plot progression, world-building, and character descriptions. It’s hard for me to envision the kingdom of Ardunia. As a reader I felt limited only to the thoughts of the characters and despite being nearly 1/3 way along, I feel little happened.
