“How do I look, mother?” “Almost handsome. Very much almost, and I believe we have crossed the line.” “I’m not too...?” “No, you’re not too fox.”

Book two is just as good as book one. The scene where Temujin is dressing to go in search of Borte is lovely.

The episode of the shaman's prophecy about Temujin is the best thing I have read for a long while. Beautiful.

Evocative of a long lost world. Beautifully written.

I'm enjoying it. The consistent use of the word "drug" instead of "dragged", the past tense of drag is very unusual and a little distracting for me. I thought it was a mistake in what I think is otherwise great writing, but I looked it up on dictionary.com and it is a non-standard usage in Midland and Southern USA.

Originally struck me as a very efficiently written book and a little hard to keep up with all the names and places, but it has some moments of beautiful emotional subtlety that are very moving.
