Okay I can’t with this miscommunication…JUST COMMUNICATE OMG…if you can’t be honest and vulnerable, even though it’s so so so scary, then you will never get the love and trust you deserve…scary, I know, but I’ve learned this before age 23, and these main characters are in their mid to late 30s? I get that people move at their own pace, but cmon now…I hope I can finish this book to hit this years goal

Jacob’s monologues are super relatable…I feel like he was repeating my own thoughts about thinking everyone hates you, but I’ve gotten better at reframing my thoughts and renouncing the lies lol. I have a feeling miscommunication is gonna be an issue between Jacob and Briana though, which will piss me off because I’ve gotten better at communication so that trope makes me mad now because it’s dumb

I’m enjoying this book so far, and I especially like them showing how anxiety can affect so much of your life. I love that Jacob also finds journaling to be grounding because I too think journaling helps me work through what happened to me and how I feel about it, and it can be frustrating when friends or family don’t understand why I need to get my thoughts and feelings out of my head and onto paper

Well, I’m on vacation which means I’m back to FLYING through books…not as good as the last one, but still pretty good although a bit more vulgar at times, which I don’t like…so far I’d give it probably a 3.5 and no reread (I already want to reread just for the summer and buy it lol)

“You are not what happened to you. You are what you do next.” WHOA. This isn’t even a psychology or a Catholic book. Life is not fair, and life does suck sometimes. You will make mistakes and bad things will happen to you. What matters more than those mistakes and tribulations are how YOU react to it…I’ve learned this in both my job and in my personal life, and I like that this book is teaching that too!

I also just love the good life lessons in this book. Like, choose empathy over anger when you can because anger only hurts both you and others. And choose to make your own happiness and find the good in crises. “Sometimes the traumas are the reason you know how to help” is so true. Also, difficult times are when you learn more about yourself and how resilient you can be (which I know from experience).

So so so good…Justin is nearly perfect and puts so much effort into dating and pursuing Emma, and that’s the kind of man that all women need. Also, Justin’s friends are great…he is so loved by them, and the situation he’s in is messed up, but his friends love him so much. I’m excited to see where the love story goes!

I like how this book emphasizes the importance of a primary care visit not being all about efficiency and instead being about asking open-ended questions to get to the root of the patient’s problem. Working at Epic, it’s important for me to realize that electronic technology “risks more cognitive errors, because the doctor’s mind is set on filling in the blanks in the template.”

Important questions to ask physicians to slow down their thinking and avoid cognitive errors: What’s the worst thing this could be? What body parts are near where I am having my symptoms/what body parts might be causing the symptoms?

So far, pretty interesting…it’s interesting learning that most medical errors (incorrect diagnoses and treatments) are from mistakes in thinking and not technical errors. Also, the cross between feeling and thinking is mentioned: part of what causes cognitive errors that result in medical errors are inner feelings, which need to be recognized.

So fascinating so far! I like the commentary on how pale and thin bodies that were sick were associated with beauty and somehow health, which is still so prevalent in our society today…not bc of tuberculous, but bc of eating disorders/body dysmorphia, and the people that are starving themselves are called “healthy”
