These two main characters have personalities! It’s thrilling to share their feelings and actually have the characters touch me emotionally. I’m hoping that this character development only continues to get better.

I actually love the pacing of this book so far! I feel like pacing is something a lot of authors mess up on, but so far it feels natural but also quick enough to keep me constantly engaged.

The anticipation to the first wish was great! I found myself getting excited and waiting on the edge of my seat.

I’m actually really loving this book so far! I love the characters and such an interesting story that’s right up my alley. Can’t wait to see where this goes!

I hope this book isn’t another letdown from the previous book I read…

WHAT?! We don’t even get an intense interaction between Evie and Trystan??! For the first time in this book, I was excited about the prospect of getting a bonding scene between the two for the gurve sleepover night. BUT NO, we got NOTHING. Just skip to the next day. This is not boding well for a good review…

This book has honestly been not great…I thought it was going to be much better based on reviews, but there has been no true plot and I feel like everything happening has had no soul. The events are just kind of listed off and no real thought was given to weaving said events in tot the plotline to further the story and character development.

I feel like we’re more than halfway through the book and the characters still don’t feel like they have any real depth :/ I just now learned that Evie has long black hair…

Lowkey Evie is pretty immature and annoying…

Honestly, not much has happened yet so far. I would’ve preferred to not have a time jump from Evie and the Villain’s first meeting. I feel like the connection between the two feels unnatural. I’m hoping this gets better because I was expecting this to be a really great book.

I’m attached to these tributes aww. Out of all the books, these characters might be the hardest to watch die since I feel like I know their backstories the best.

Snow and Haymitch are in the library. I love reading these encounters from a 3rd person view. Knowing what happens in Katniss’s timeline, Snow’s timeline, and the eventual future of all 3 characters makes these scenes SO interesting.

Some people have to leave home to find out who they really are. Unfortunately and devestatingly Maysilee and Wyatt had to go to the Capitol for that.

There are genuinely so many themes in this book and they all seem to flow, not forced. Maysilee and Wyatt are finally able to show their true selves, finding their own personalities without being put into a box by other 12 citizens, but only after theyve been sentenced to death shows a strong theme. When you have nothing to lose, what’s stopping you from being yourself?

The heartbreak is real. I’m feeling Haymitch’s pain along with him. I don’t know if it’s just because I know the weight of the reaping or if Collins has truly written such a heart wrenching plot, but I’m feeling it either way.

I have high hopes for this ongoing prequel series since TBOSAS was so good. Already surprising me with not pulling Haymitch’s name from the cup. This is such a cool lens we’re getting to see the reaping from. We obviously know the outcome, but not the story. I’ve read prequels before, but I feel like I’m rediscovering them for the first time again and it’s so fun!

“I threw a square named Marty against a wall after he tried to exorcise me in a small locked room! And then I got the records for free from J-Bone! Isn’t that RIGHTEOUS?”

Ok, what’s even happening…if we hadn’t before, we we have completely and entirely lost the plot now.

Alright so is Peter just dead now? I was slightly disappointed because I find Alice annoying, but I feel I should be sadder by the prospect of him dead. I feel like he still might come back though miraculously.

The whole method of telling their backstories in a non chronological way is actually very annoying and counterproductive to actual enjoyment of a fantasy novel.

I feel like only just now I’ve gotten to know who the characters are. Feeling like the characters’ names only just now have meaning halfway through the book is kind of ridiculous. I understand the author thought that she could only now tell us their backstories for it to mean something to the reader, but I disagree and think it actually worked against herself. We should’ve gotten to know them around 1/4 in.

I’m kind of tired of the pretentiousness of all these paradoxes, deep explanations about transitivity and rational decision making, and reading Proust and Einstein. I think these things aren’t really adding to the story, it’s just like the author likes to talk about and flaunt how much she knows about these abstract theories.

The language and the thought is what’s carrying me through thus far…Not how I like my fantasy novels…I’m only continuing because I have a sliver of hope that this could get better.

Honestly, this book is pretty pretentious. I want story, plot, fantasy. I’m just met with abstract concepts and words parading around as wisdom. There’s time for that later, but what keeps readers of this genre engaged is the story. I’m sensing none of that, and frankly Alice is annoying and Peter doesn’t intrigue me. Hope this gets better…

Not sure how I feel about this ~100 pages in…I expected some esoteric writing, but this is a bit much. All the theories and stuff is overcrowding a lot of the enjoyment of storybuilding. I don’t feel like I know anything about the MCs, they feel 1D. Their characters weren’t built upon before their descent to Hell, maybe they will be lager, but I feel their depth was neglected and is surface level.
