The cozy mystery self awareness is making this deliciously campy.

I'm convinced some cozy mystery authors are threatened with death if they don't add an unnecessary romance (especially with law enforcement) in their books. This is one of them. What other explanation could there be?

Do authors know romance is not mandatory in mysteries? Because it isn't.
