I really should have paid more attention in class when they were teaching abt history of scientific research and stuff. Sooo many of their thinking stem from the bible and that's super fascinating.

slavery debate #1 probably many to come. I believe it was the reason they fell off. Darwin was against slavery while Fitzroy was fine with it.

this read would make more sense if I know more abt the reform bill and the situation surrounding it. I didn't pay enough attention in class when they were teaching abt this.

I need to finish this so I can start six frigates. this book is such a fun read. I don't understand why it's taking me so long to read it. I just never feel like picking it up but then I do and it's super fun and interesting and then I don't pick it up for two more weeks.

I bet British navy committed more war crime with these research ships than with an actual man-of-war.

had to stop to look up how rich fitzroy's family was and the answer is VERY.

Might as well took advantage of my inability to read anything but boat books

Finished part 1

I didn't know shit abt Fitzroy beforehand so I didn't expect him to took four natives with him back to England. 'human cargo' 'savage' and all the Christian civilization talk, the way they treated them like pets, their dreams of becoming Englishmen, them putting their trust in Fitzroy etc.

Also, half way through part one I googled 'did captain fitzroy has bipolar' and the answer is probably yes.

1. Boat!
2. Religion & Science. God created wind but wind has pattern so god must created the machanic behind wind instead. Hmmm why do these guys look different from us despite all of us having a common 8 ancestors after the Noah thing. Must be the evolution!
3. 'but they ain't human' thanks for making it super easy to remember you guys were a bunch of colonizers lol
4. Wager and Byron mentioned

5/104

10 year old me would have memorize every single one of these to retell them to my brother as bed time stories.

>When Franklin suggested on June 28 that each session start with a prayer for heavenly help...According to legend, Hamilton also rebutted Franklin with the jest that the convention didn’t need “foreign aid."

>One story, perhaps apocryphal, claims that when Hamilton was asked why the framers omitted the word God from the Constitution, he replied, “We forgot.”

went into this blind and I'm now hooked.

I need to rewatch 1776 the musical after this lmao I keep hearing songs in my head

I went this far so I might as well finish it but it's soooo boring.

I cried.

The reviews make it sounds like this is boring/basly written but nooo it is fun. Might help that despite this being based on real story, I didn't know anything beforehand.

solid 4/5 so far.

Getting back to my nautical era after 10 days break

Having listened to 1776 make this so much funnier

"John Burgoyne was the oldest of the three, nearly as old as Gage, but by the date of his commission he had the least seniority."

was reminded of Aubrey's late promotion and so I'm pissed again. I need to just finish this and go read HMS Surprise instead.

I was NOT expecting that twist.

might dnf tbh I don't feel like reading it at all
