Omg. I was so nervous to read this book because following up Hold the Line seems like an impossible feat, but here I am 12% in having a visceral reaction. Oh I am so excited about this.

It is unreal how much I am loving this.

Choosing to reread (...listen) this two years later was the best idea I've ever had. I can't comprehend how I gave this book only 3 stars the first time around! It's so fucking good.

I am OBSESSED with Cletus. This isn't even his book! He is just GAH he is perfect. I've highlighted so many Cletus moments that have made me literally laugh out loud. Also, is Penny Reid making me enjoy a story with a FAMOUS FMC?! Unheard of.

How do these books start out SO FUCKING GOOD? Like I am over here loling and I am just hooked. Please no dumb MC subplot to come 🙏🙏🙏

The thing about me is if I like a book but hate a subplot, I will simply skip the subplot. I'll skim it for any pertinent character info, but pretend like the rest doesn't exist. I'm sure the internet would have loud opinions about that but 🤷‍♀️.

In this book, I'm having fun with every bit of it, except for the dumb MC subplot, so to me, it no longer exists. Duane is so sweet.

Ok, I'm like really enjoying this. I'm out of audiobook hours on Spotify for the month, so I have to switch to the Kindle version, but I'm going to miss the narrators with their southern accents! Sweet Duane just said, "I want to know you, and I want to be known," and I'm trying to recover from the vulnerable sweetness 😩

So the Winston's have always interested me, and starting now just feels right. I need a completed series with a full family cast and a small town to beat my current decision fatigue. Life's hard. Choosing books should not be. So yeah! First 4 chapters definitely have my attention!

My god I have not devoured a book like this in one sitting in SO LONG.

Why does reading this feel like a chore? I keep waiting to connect with them both, and it's just not happening.

So I'm enjoying this book, but also, I'm like, how am I ONLY at 54%. I think this book could be like 100 pages less, but maybe I'll feel differently at the end if I ever get there...

Omg the absolute SWOONFEST that is the first 9% of this book? What? I was giggling out loud at my work desk. Around my coworkers. I had to apologize for being weird.

Ok, so at first I was like, please don't tell me I have to tour the entire United States by camper with this woman's two children before we get to any of the good stuff. Don't get me wrong, her daughter is a phenomenal character, and I adore her, but that was just not my romance novel vibe. Then we reached Maine, and the banter and the cringe awkwardness that is Nel is just *chefs kiss*. So glad I stayed on the trip.

Ok, they promised it could be read as a standalone, yet all I have read for 28 pages are 847 different names and about how good the MMC fucks and the ick factor is not worth the possible tears. Right now, at least. Back to want to read you go. ✌️
