At this point, I don't really like Grant.

Two reasons:
-he messing with a married woman (I don't care if she separated; she still married)
-the fact that he hits his students for doing simple, childish things just because HE's in a bad mood

I know this story is based in the late 1940s, on a plantation where this was probably a thing----teachers whooping students--- BUT, my today brain is oh hell nah'n over here.

I want to dnf this, but it's less than 300 pages. I'm going to give it one more chapter tomorrow, or she's getting ✂️😑

Wow, I haven't picked this book up in almost a month. It's not that it's bad. It just takes a while to get invested in a dystopian book trying to understand their world.

So I read other books.

Tried a chapter last night, and I'm intrigued.

My first J. S. read.

I went into this blind but had to come back to read the summary because it felt random.

When I read, there was no real plot, just people vibes, then I understood. Now, I can proceed to just vibe with the Cannery Row people.

I am a bit sideways to find out who/what the character Dora is... because my name is Dora. -_-

It's not a good sign if it takes about 100 pages to get into a book.

I'm really not feeling this one. It's probably not the best book to start with from this author.

Initial thoughts: Where are the damn chapters? Each "section" is just titled a random word. I'm not excited about anything, but I'm annoyed by many things. This JESSE boy needs to disappear off the pages in this book...Pronto!

Thoughts after chapter 1: Not much. The prologue was intriguing, but chapter 1 was mostly how "great" this MMC is...I'm not being convinced yet that this is for me.

Thoughts after Chapter: I'm intrigued. I don't really know what's going on yet, but I'm interested to learn about this closed off world.

I'm not pulled into the story yet despite the one gory part.
