Eh... the tone is strange, the pacing is VERY odd, and I'm far from feeling any kind of horror aspects from it. I appreciate and highly encourage queer representation in media, but this Left Hand of Darkness-esque fictional country with emphasis on the language felt very... out of place in a book set in the 1890s with enough going on around it as is. She should've just kept it focused entirely on the house/fungi imo.

Call of the Wild killed me off. Oh god what a beautiful story - a return to nature. Then the start of White Fang - that opening: wow, no words.

Honestly shut the fuck up that’s so annoying. My opinion of this book is faltering now I’ve found 2 typos in it. It’s okay, but makes me remember why I like classic lit more than contemporary like this.

Brodie is a bastard and I KNEW it. It’s also contrasting to the accounts Saffy is reading about the witch trials - I wonder if he will die because of her or something or she’ll be blamed. I’m enjoying it so far but it definitely isn’t something I can see myself rereading anytime soon.

Okay what the fuck this opening was so good??? Such a breath of fresh air for me as I’ve never read a book with parts set SO recent. Cant wait to uncover this mystery.

Today I read 239 pages of this book, and I'm still up for reading more. Holy shit, it's amazing. I can SEE it so vividly, and it really scratches an itch I've had for a while. I don't want this book to end.

"Come where the grass is greener,

Someone’s going to die and I hate it. Lord of the Rings but make it rabbits. I’m in love so far!
