There’s so much hardship and suffering in this book

Many thoughts on this book. We owe it to the land and to the animals that this is their land and home too. I wish people were more respectful of land and animals. Happy Indigenous People Day!

Oh that got a bit sad

A mere 45’ years of age a day now and thus, I’m ready for sleep at 9:30 pm on a Friday night. It’s been a super long and busy work week for me. PTO next week and vacay week after. Deland an Daytona, we’re coming for a visit on 10/21

Again, this book is extremely deep. The land is sacred. The land remembers. It’s so reminiscent of how the land we live on is stolen land. Colonizers take and take. Reminds me of Trump declaring he’s going to take Greenland and turn Gaza into some ridiculous palace created by Goldmember. We live in a horrific timeline and every day I’m surprised we are just living through the fall of the United States

Pretty deep read so far. I feel like this is on par with protecting sacred lands from the colonizers but also the subjugation of being forced into labor to get by because capitalism. Knowing that the land is owed so much more than we give it and that climate change is real

Intriguing start to this novel

Ugh, nothing like Epstein similarities and tracking teenage girls aka children to put things into perspective.

This book isn’t even American but it feels very ick since republicans and pedophilia go hand in hand

I’m enjoying this so reunion so far. It’s like no time has passed at all since Big Little Lies and Madeline is always hiding something

I’m literally visualizing the cast of the series while reading this book. I hope they bring the show back for Season 3!

Excited for book #2. The gang is back together again and excited that Renata (played in the series by the wonderful Laura Dern) will have more of a storyline in the 2nd novel

It’s devastating that women grow up thinking they’re less than or inferior based on race. But we live in Trump’s Amerikkka so it’s not surprising as the racism has always been here

My first Toni Morrison novel. I adored several of them at the Winter Park library used book store at $1.50 a piece 😆

A few heavy chapters there. Glad to see Corby is introspecting but not surprised when men don’t speak up either. My favorite characters in books are never perfect and always battling their inner demons and trying to strive for being a better person despite all the shit life hands you

A lot of good references to the atrocities of racism which is inherently overt in Trump’s Amerikkka. I like that he mentioned Emmett Till and Trayvon Martin. Relevant and pertinent information and stories of our tragic plight of Trump the last decade of fueling the racist MAGAts and hate in the not so great US

This hits home that in our formative years of history lessons, we were taught we were the good guys. And this book is absolutely right. It’s propaganda they fed us for years. Finally this book is getting it right that “the man” and to be clear “the white man” likes to rewrite history in his favor. To make himself look better because the truth is always racism.

America has not ever been great

There’s so much happening here but it’s well written and executed so far

A couple of good gems from this chapter:
Now that Trump’s in the White House, the political winds have shifted so abruptly, you could get whiplash.
A reference to Satchel Page which I learned about from Ted Lasso
We never learned that in school - referring to Colonialism and the whites trying to wipe out Native Americans.

So far this novel is something else. Grief, heartbreak, and trauma all wrapped up in a shiny bow

Favorite line of this book so far is Trump lies every time he opens his mouth. Yes, he absolutely does and people just let him get away with his pathological lying and corruption

Corby has some real serious issues and is in one hell of a denial
