I am being way generous. This was not a Batman tale at all. He literally shows up last page, as the avenging demon of local lore. But the history of the trumpet, with its supernatural aura and flare is worth mentioning. Authro had a story to tell and threw Batman in to tie it into DC Universe.

This tale definitely captures the bedlam that is Gotham, with its psychotic villains. Love that Batman tries to talk sense into the mentally broken criminal, while slapping him around.

From the poses to the spoken verbiage, this did not feel like a Batman story. It pored a little more into the mythis of the charcater that Gotham gossips about, and it had this surreal supernatural feel to the plot. It was more like a civilian on the street telling what they heard about the legendary Batman

This story brought me to the graphic novel, and I admit that I was bummed. It doesn't explain how Harvey got over Grace Lamont so effortlessly, doesn't even mention her; though it does show he can love. It did capture Harvey's madness, his psychosis around duplicity. But how Harvey reacted (SPOILERS AHEAD), re-disfiguring himself and not being able to accept whats right before him seemed forced.

This captures the ethos of the Batman character. People (including the writers and fans) tend to forget why Bruce does what he does: he doesn't want any child to ever feel what he did. One could argue that he doesn't want anyone suffering from crime, and this story captures that idea. No big name villain or world ending plot; just a person Bruce doesn't want forgotten.

Influencer spilled the beans ... puled a Tom Holland. But why does this change of POV sound like the character is being interviewed?

Really? That's the best character the author could come up with for this purpose? A Black drug addict turned actor with an Irish name?

... there are so many characters in this book, and I am not sure why I need to know so much about each of them. I think its part of humanizing the whole process of making movies; it's a difficult and complex job that some enjoy doing while others just see it as it is

Regrettably, I cannot say I know Ynez's character is being troped. But, it definitely feels like it. All those people living under one roof and her nonchalant "niceness" at allowing herself to be bossed around by a PA, just feels off-putting.

The second female character of importance, and the first acknowledged person of no-white/caucas ancestry, and that's her backstory? It couldn't be that she wanted to be nurse or CEO and was working her way up? She had to have a traumatized childhood?

Just now getting to pre-production of the major motion picture the title mentions.
There's a lot of world-building (character and setting building).
A lot of backstory to several characters, and I'm not introduced to all of them yet.
I do like "the story behind the story" concept, but this is "a story behind the story behind a tale" ~ an aggressive task

Tally is not quick-witted. This girl is a habitual liar.
And the way its written, its already sizing up to be part of a series.

What is wrong with this kid? Did Tally really not suspect the fail-safe device on the chain? But she is quick on her feet, I guess, maybe.

David knows something is up but is blinded by infatuation. Really feels like the Smokies are providing her with an out, except one person.

the Dean at BVA went straight for the social-economic heartstrings with the accusations against Miles. And he wasn't relenting. SMH

I was introduced to Miles with the first animated movie, and he wasn't too suave. But this book has him being more socially awkward than I recalled (from the film). Along with annoying best bud, its a little rattling to get used to.
Full disclosure: I like Ganke being more nerd & geek than annoying fanboy

Julia did not need to allow the officer to leave with anything. Also, my suspicion that Alex is responsible is now much stronger.

I so hope Oliver and Marshall are not Alex's sons. There are some interesting overlap in life story

Don't tell her but Vera has a lot of wisdom; it pours out of her as blunt advice and inner thought. And I am glad I'm finally finding out why Ricky and the others hated Marshall.

I fear Alex is the murderer. I will hate if Marshall promised to help him with his wife and the medical bills but hustled him.
Its just been so long since Alex was mentioned. I doubt this is part of the plot though.

Ganke is so annoying. Why can't he stop messing around?

Having a difficult time defining the genre, but thats not a bad thing. Comedy. Drama. Detective noir. Dramedy. I am enjoying the characters and premise. This is an enjoyable read.

Come on now. The Rangers explaining how things are outside the city should be enough to make Tally realize her error. And counting the spagbol packages should let the Smokies know something doesn't add up. Lastly, Shay should know Tally well enough to know she wouldn't have a last minute fling, right?

So far, I think Paris is a tool and doesn't actually care about Tally anylonger. I also am not liking the mindset of the protagonist, which is very much a selfish teenager

Interesting format; part poetry. And interesting premise so far

Definitely getting Wakanda vibes. But also getting "Children of Blood and Bone" whisps.
A world wherre only Nigerians have superpowers makes me want to know more. Why them? What is their connection to the power source? And why did the doctor found the academy; what is he up to?

No matter how much tech integrates with humanity, and how far away from Earth they go, when push comes to shove they revert to an instinct not suited for interstellar travel.

Not really sure why, but I felt like this was a visualization of "don't talk to strangers" and the knowing adult end up suffering the consequences of not heeding such a warning.
Could there be a deeper meaning to the tale? I think so, but not sure what it could be.

This was a good one. It read like a set, with an intriguing build up and perfect punchline.
This short had a great protagonist that questioned their sanity because of the unseen antagonist, which was gaslighting them. And despite the trauma suffered, the resolution is quick and believable.
