“To Sade, the girl with worlds on her skin.”

“That’s what Croc sees when he looks at you. An ocean of stories. Of potential.”

“I had a map on my skin once too. You can barely see it now, but it told of my pain, not my potential. I much prefer the map on yours.”

Sarah
Sarah is on page 12 of 304 of The Maid and the Crocodile
“Though few can see it, everyone feels spirit silt—the layer of dust and spirit creatures that lies atop living souls. For those at peace with their places in the world, spirit silt is as light as the air they breathe. But those who reject the roles placed on them by others, who chafe at the web into which they were born… well.”

Behaviour changes the outcome, thinking changes nothing. The probability of imagined negative events is reduced by action, not thought.

I definitely understand the meaning and purpose of the example illustrated on this page (how bad experiences can contribute to anxiety, fears and create phobias) but this example I just can’t relate to. I love dogs!

“‘We already have an ally in the town. It’s you.’
I take her words and cherish them.”

The character development! The Elsa a few chapters back would not have ‘cherished’ being called an ally of her sworn enemy ☺️

“The tide has turned… I’m doing something. In that Circle House, I was listened to, I was respected. It’s crushing to realise that I have never known that. Today, I spoke.”

“I can speak.
I will speak.”

So finally we see Ayland. The stark contrast between the two societies. They seem like the “good guys” now.

I’ve been quietly suspecting that Elsa’s father was alive, saying he was dead but specifying “MIA” spoke more to “probably dead, but we don’t know for sure”. I feel more certain that he may be a Torch and he escaped into Ayland. We shall see I guess.

Poor Elsa really needs a win right now…

'I'd be grateful, I say, 'if you'd observe my married name?
