i spent so much of last year with a book constantly occupying my "currently reading" shelf...now i feel uneasy when it's empty. but what to read next!(?) i haven't decided! is this what drives people to make TBRs?

"Before ten minutes [of Eddie telling Mark about this awful book] have passed, Mark has committed to buying this book first thing in the morning and reading it immediately so they can be petty about it together tomorrow night."

'"It's a thriller, and everyone in it is gay," Mark says. "And awful. The author is apparently gay as well. And awful." He pauses and shrugs. "One relates."'

LMAO

oh so they did kiss and it was disastrous. got it. i also now understand why people would want to murder toby, AND i feel like our mc really missed out on some hints aaron was dropping in their second conversation regarding terminating pregnancies. current murder guess: ...hugo? just because he doesnt seem to have an obvious motive and that makes him arbitrarily suspicious to me LOL

i feel like my audiobook trajectory is always "wow i read a big chunk of this in one day! i'll finish it so fast!" > (does not pick it back up for a week, only reads it in small sections) > "oops why did that take 2 months?"

so anyways i did make progress today and this is my current chores-and-crafts-accompaniment audiobook, so we'll see how it goes. am i learning a lot about augustine and the early church, yes!

i checked this out from the library as a physical book but then i discovered i could also check out the audiobook on hoopla...at least i started it (my nonfiction reading rate is famously glacial) but who knows if i will even pick up the print book now that we're in audio mode. anyway. the author reads the audiobook so that's neat! i think this is only my second author-read audiobook, after the fox wife.

technically this book is actually only 300 pages long if you set aside all the pages of references and whatnot. which means i only have 70 pages left and i CAN finish this book today before i skulk back to the library to return it! (it is overdue)

almost couldn't finish this because of how 🥺🥺🥺 almost every character is. e and henery are my guiding lights. also where was the plot for 80% of the book and why did i have to sit through so many letters of effusive "i miss you more" "no i miss YOU more" back and forth

needed a new sewing audiobook. really enjoying this one so far (it's both informative AND very engagingly written) and i can follow along well even though I don't have much background knowledge on the tudor era at present.

"Cliopher did not like that mocking expression. Did not like what it implied of his Radiancy's state of soul, did not like it aimed outward, particularly did not like seeing his Radiancy aiming it inward at himself. It was not the sort of self-aware humour that healed; it was a hard carapace to shield the wounds it was itself inflicting."

oh! ow!

it's sort of crazy learning about how much oppression and exploitation (and environmental damage) is entwined with the production of cotton and then thinking about how much ~natural fibers are held up and valorized within sewing and crafting communities! basically everything is intersectional everything is multilayered.
