I almost always finish books - but I couldn't make it through this one. While I am a fervent animal lover, the tone of this book put me on edge. I found it preachy. Ultimately, if you're an animal lover and believe in their rights, this book won't tell you anything new. If you believe animals are dispensable, this book probably is not going to change your mind.

I've been wanting to read Joseph Campbell for some time; however, I think this book is too in-depth for someone with little to no background in mythology. While some of his sentences resonate with me, I've myself a bit overwhelmed by much of the subject matter because I don't have the foundation, and this book doesn't provide much foundation.
