Javier is on page 25 of 118 of The Triumph of the Slippers: On the Withdrawal from the World
The fear of other people’s ideas, conversation, stares, and physical affection (platonically) plus not forgetting to mention war, politics, and generally the “shit” you see on the news and social media has put a halt to people and their relationship to going outdoors (being comfortable there)

Fear is one hell of a drug Bruckner seems to be getting at.
Being outside and truly experiencing joy there has become ever harder due to today’s climate, and I’m not just talking about the weather.

This is probably the last excerpt I read before leaving to Spain.
To keep myself updated.
Western has been homeless for a while after losing his money, home, and friend due to “them.” (Who knows)
After visiting Stella Maris, he finds out more about his sister and her final hypocritical moments. She has left him with her fortune and a wedding ring after her passing.
Now he has the ability to really leave.
Wwhg?

Western is the type of man to get questioned about a missing passenger, attempt to solve it, then get robbed THEN proceed to just talk to everyone about their lives and their relationships with themselves and others.
🤔
He’s at his grandmothers abode for a reason unbeknownst to me.

“He’s in “love” with his sister and she’s dead”
Western, a diver, among other skills is the brother of a schizophrenic sister who has died a couple years earlier.
I have 0 clue what’s going to happen in this book.

Such a short book but highly prolific. Still reading but this author means business.
From discussing how Jesus’s teachings weren’t highly original to questioning the morality of “pure” Christianity and even going as far as the topic of abortion.
Sam Harris has gathered the facts and isn’t afraid to absolutely let loose.

Lee, Carla tells me, means to read in Spanish.
Well Lee the main character is a giant reader the author is Spanish, put 2 and 2 together.
Lee’s pretty sad and judgmental too. He burns himself to bring his dead wife, Judy, back to existence for a few moments.
Lee is an entire series and I want to know the order to read it all.

Javier
Javier is on page 45 of Lee
Lee is an absolute shut out from society. Half from his own will and actions and half because society ignorantly ignores seniors. The new new generation ignores his old, wrinkly, and absurd self. He idealizes education, books, and the past. The past is where he wants to be; he wants to abandon the present and kill off the future.
He idealizes things he can’t control: whether someone reads and or is educated.

Lee is categorically the Christmas Carole old man.
He’s educated as well as very angry, willing to hit a dog with its cane because of its annoying barking and also pointing out how it is weak because it has no more threats in the modern world.
His wife is dead and he loves her more than anything in the living world. Developing an abusive relationship with himself as a sacrifice to see her. Ghostly in a way.

I’m hungry for ice cream.
The writing in 4 pages describes a man, old and lonely and skinny. Living, now, in the inner parts of town. One of the good old houses. Lee’s perception of things have dwindled and have become little, especially the town. He’s a fine man but now he lives alone without his partner.

This book isn’t about 4 people with mental health issues intertwining, so far only 3 have been in each others company.
This book is about love, the infinite meanings of lightness and weightness, unknowingly inflicting pain, and finally successful and unsuccessful relationships.
So far.

Now getting into lightness and weightness.
Teresa is a single overthinking and scared pillar withholding up the relationship she has with Tomas; Tomas could say or do anything, she would stay.

Yep that’s right, Tomas is the worst human in this book no matter how much he “feels” for Teresa.
He’s abysmal.

Soil and Mind
Did Franz and Sabina just end there by their acute differences that are meaningless?
Sabina and Franz growing apart over what?
Not using strength in love?
Franz’s lack of fight for love?
Sabina’s secret unindifference for Franz?
