Really loving this novel so far. There seems to be a lot of throwback to Austen, which I love and I love the addition of glamour to history and how intricately woven the novel's mythology is. Super thankful Mish recommended this to me.

I forgot how much I love this novel. It's detailed, like all of McKinley's stories, but at the same time, it's not weighed down by world-building and backstory that, while interesting, isn't necessay.

I'm seriously loving how the story is told. Rendell writes a compelling psychological narrative and seeing all the different factors and "how the murder might have been prevented"-ifs is fascinating. There's no one event that's responsible, but rather a series of moments that could have saved the family from Eunice Parchman. Going to have read more of Rendell's works.

Only a couple pages in and I'm already hooked. Such a different style of detective novel, by revealing the murderer at the beginning, but now I need to know why.
