Priests must not be very sacred in Luceum because they die all the time and then there are no social consequences for the people who loudly pronounce that they kill them. okok theyre in a war right now, wouldnt Gol's own side WHO ALREADY HATES HIM murder him for killing like the most sacred guy around. Theres a couple mumbles but then they just party, but we're constantly told that the driuds are holy. makes no sense

also the timeskips are so bad. every POV change has whole vauge months in between where i just have to accept whatever is presented to me on page. even worse in Res where i actually like some of the side characters. Eidhin has had like 3 lines the whole book. all their convos together are an exposition dump and "and then we chatted and it felt like old times. Anway" like i dont get to see them doing anything together

I liked WTOTM for its refusal to explain how will worked bc Vis hated it so much, but that choice is only holding SOTF back. Now Vis uses will all the time and apparently does impressive things, the other characters ooh and aww, but bc i have no idea how will works the book then IMMEDIATELTLY has the explain how it happened. Clunky, slows the plot, lessens the impact of whats being done bc i only care in retrospect

Vis wants to be FitzChivalry Farseer so bad. Islington must have read assassins apprentice before writing this book because theres no way. Also every single chapter opens with "x character once told me..." Vis do you have your own thoughts bbg. Also so much time in this book has been timeskips where i just have to accept any development made with no question. theres none of the intrigue the first book had

Reusing two of the worst plot points from the first book, the fencing and the spontaneous ´challenge for his honour’. Feels like the author couldn’t think of any other way for Vis’s position as Domitor to be challenged and went with the first thing he could think of. Super dissatisfying so far, this book better start picking up soon

The POV shifts is killing the momentum like crazy. I like all three enough separately, but switching between them is a slog. Story is super vague rn, finding it really hard to get invested when I know nothing at all. The environment is way worse in this one than the last one, I’m finding it frustrating that I don’t know what anything looks like

Does it really matter who is legally king when Elend controls the army anyway. Kind of getting lost on what the stakes actually are in this book, everything kind of feels like it doesnt matter. Doesnt really feel like a seige either when people are coming in and out with no issue. The politics feels kind of shallow so far as well. not liking it as much as the first book

Literally so bad. There was no stakes, no tension, nothing mattered. Almost everyone they met in hell was helpful or at minimum not an obstacle, the big bads DECIDE TO KILL THEMSELVES. the book disregards its own rules, the plot is ruined bc her method to get the prof out of hell DOESNT REQUIRE HER TO GO TO HELL IN THE FIRST PLACE. literally nothing happens in this book, and the writing is bad.

All of the conflict feels contrived, none of the choices or motivations of the main character make sense. I wish i could feel anything for her but shes so dumb and boring. i had no idea how little this book could make me feel. Peter may as well not even be there with how little he matters. Did Kuang forget to write characters? theyre so nothing

Disappointed so far. Characters feel flat and uninteresting, the writing isnt drawing me in as much as i would like, the foreshadowing is BADDDD, and hell itself is pretty bland and uncreative? Also, for being 1/5 of the way in, theres no tension. Like i do not care at all whats happening, it feels like everything is going to work out all the time. How do you not add tension in a book about going to hell

I wish this author knew what a place description was. I have no idea what anything looks like, there is such an absurd lack of "place" in this book. I wish islington new what an adjective was. He cannot stop telling and not showing. "They talked for the evening and felt closer afterwards" SHOW ME THAT you cant just put all of the character development off screen and want me to care about these people

so much of the plot hinges on characters pretending to be asleep and convieniently overhearing really important information

Things just kind of happen, all of the characters are way too trusting for the positions their in. It feels like the characters have no agency and are just pushed from one situation to the next because thats where the plot needs to go. None of them react properly, all of the interactions that would show me who they are to each other are waved away with "they talked as they walked" like show me that? dont just tell me

So far im entertained but not interested. This def feels self-published, the characters are pretty one note and flat, the author could do more interesting stuff with the no lying mechanic he's built in. Story has good bones but needs more refinement. sometimes it seems like characters just know things or trust other people with no real justification, like the story has to move on and he coulnt make it better
