I plan on re-reading Said’s Question of Palestine but I remember it being sooo dense, so I picked this up as a palette cleanser

Truly just awful writing .. who even was her editor

I’m only like 20 pages in and the writing is just plain awful…. She could reduce a whole paragraph to a sentence and that would be better than the overly descriptive, platitudinous run ons… I can already see where this book is going and I think if we’re talking about stories of child actors and stage moms etc, the Natalie wood biography is more compelling (and juicy).. but idk I’ll still give this a chance

I wanna see what all the hype was about ..

Yearly tradition… my copy is signed btw… when I checked this out from the library 14 years ago the library receipt was inserted on the page where the letter entry was dated on my birthday …

Ok 200 pages later I’m feeling it … truly part 1 of the book aka the first 117 pages is so lame and boring but part 2 and beyond so far are really fun and I like the slow burn. I think the book could’ve done without the entirety of part 1 and maybe just condense it to like 30 pages max ….

Honestly a little boring 😭 rn it’s a whole lot of “I love god” and “I love the zoo” .. I missed the boat on this one when the movie came out but I’m wondering if that’s for the best… wondering if I’m even gonna finish it lol

While this book is total tea, I feel some discomfort about the fact that 100 pages of the second section is just about all of Natalie wood’s “affairs” with older men when she was a teenager. Like why is that the focus……….. while the author definitely points out the moral implications of these gross ass 30+ year old men, I do wonder why the author thinks all of this is insanely important……

You mean to tell me Natalie wood has an “affair” with Frank Sinatra when she was 14… and when she was 16 had an “affair” with her director of rebel without a cause who was 43 years old at time time … insane tea ……. I can’t put this down…

Wow how do my books keep lowkey mentioning Armenians … Natalie Wood’s half sister Olga is half Armenian……… so epic ………..

This book is like a fever dream.. took me like 180 pages to get really into it but I’m really into it! Some lowkey Armenian narratives in it too.. surprised yet delighted me!

It holds up! Part of me is so surprised this was a book I read in my sophomore English class … it’s like 1984 meets high tech. Very relevant to today …

Read this my sophomore year of high school and it blew my mind then. Curious how it holds up twelve years later …
