Great, on the fifth and final part!

It’s a lot better now that I’ve got used to the reading rhythm. Been reading it for the past week and hooked!

It started strongly about the changing landscape of cities and whether the future is with them or in the suburbs but about 100 pages in it turned into a book exclusively weighing the pros and cons of trees specifically.

Very interesting that it took Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the Dunedain 6 days to get from Dunharrow, and destroy the Black Ship sailors of Mordor before letting the Dead be at rest after the Battle of the Pelenor fields.

I prefer Jackson’s journey with just the 3 individuals and not so descriptive

Interesting, I think I prefer the movies for their description of the battle. The fact that Merry spoke to Theoden as he died was a bit odd and I prefer the film version where Eowen gets some closure.

Fascinating ending with Shelob and Sam, wonder why Jackson didn’t have Sam put on the ring and hear the orcs talking their black speech at the end of the film.

Interesting that Jackson repurposed Beregond’s speech about the breathe before the plunge, that the beacons were lit on the ride over instead of by pippin and Gandalf. I like the slower pace of the Gondor section, ironic considering my enjoyment of Jackson’s fast pace of the Fellowship.

Interesting, I didn’t fully realise the Osgiliath section in the film with Frodo and Sam confronting the Nazgûl was made up by Jackson for more action. I prefer that version for its tension rather than Frodo and Sam simply walking with Gollum to Minas Morgul and Sheldon

Interesting that Tolkien chose to separate the books with the larger fellowship and Frodo/Sam together. I prefer Jackson’s mixed version and increased lengthiness of Helm’s Deep

Interesting that they don’t even cover helms deep before going to Frodo and Sam’s journey. The palatir bit is quite uneventful. Great reading though!

Really good, great theory!

Interesting to note that Gandalf didn’t mention waiting for the 5th day, the warg scene and Aragorn disappearing was inserted into the film, the elves didn’t turn up and Eomer fought with Aragorn. The dunhill men also joined the orcs with no distinction from Saruman’s Uruk-hai.

I can’t believe Legolas spoke to the Lothlorien elves who said that Sam of all people was so loud they could’ve shot him in the dark instead of Haldir saying that of Gimli like in the film.

I honestly prefer the increased Dwarf-Elf tension that Peter eludes to for a shorter more humorous and ferocious plot!

I’m starting to prefer the film, can’t believe the Company only fought an orc chieftain in Balin’s tomb, Frodo didn’t show the company his mithril and the Balrog wasn’t described that well.

Finally picking up pace, into Moria we go!
