Last night I read chapter 2, on earthquakes, and I keep thinking about it this morning. Incredible.

I'm not sure how part 2 will go, but I wept last night during part 1. Definitely better than anticipated!

Pretty good so far but I've read
"For the rest of [his/her] life, [he/she] would remember that [sound, smell, taste, touch] and feel [emotion]" already about 7 times in this book. It's an odd affect.

I'm like 4 pages in and already I feel like BURSTING with joy and thought and love and praise and delight and anger that this book is somehow, infuriatingly, hundreds of dollars in print.

Reading on archive.org right now for free at least. INCREDIBLE.

I'm SO angry that this book is not still in print. It's SO good. So, so good.

I am only mad that it has taken me this long to read this book. It's so good. Dense but readable, deep but simple. Excellent, excellent, excellent.

Great so far! A quick, easy read - a sci-fi murder mystery - the best!

Dannnngggg. That is good.

I ran out of time to listen to it on this borrow and now it will be 8 weeks until I get it again. The big question is whether or not I will remember.

So far I could have underlined the entire thing. This is about to be the book that I recommend to everyone and their mother. Get it. Read it.

So far this is a really difficult read because of how abusive this relationship was. I've read a lot of cult memoirs, but this one is really awful.

One of the things I think a lot of people who have been reading it have forgotten is how impressionable college students are. You want to belong, you are still in a place where people feel like they have power over you - in other words, this could happen to anyone.

I'm so annoyed at this book and this narrator. She's incompetent, foolish, dumb, and irritating. She can't figure anything out but just so happens upon all the vital information for this case. I enjoyed the first book in this series - this one I'm listening to on 2.25 speed from here on out, just so I can finish.

The second half of chapter 5 is really solid, talking about the "faithful ones" - men and women who have dialogued with God themselves and testify to God's goodness in the life of the speaker. In other words, the importance of community in sharing in suffering.

This isn't a layperson book though, I would only recommend it to those who would take these ideas and apply them simply to others.

This is a series of talks and sermons Brueggemann did; so far chapter 1 was fantastic and halfway through chapter 2 I've written "not sure that's in the text" about 17 times. Not to put myself on the good doctor's level, but he makes claims that aren't quite in the text, nor does he show how they are in the text. It is interesting at least, and making me think!

"For the hypocrite is not the person claims to be a Christian and who at the same time sins. All of us do that. The finest of saints did that...Hypocrites do not sin more than others, they pretend more. They don't fail more often; they do, though, fake it more often."

This is the worst-read audiobook I've ever read. There's one part where the reader mispronounces retinue, slaps himself, and pronounces it correctly. Josephus, Herodotus, Athanasius, Hezekiah, Byzantine Empire are just a few of the names he has BUTCHERED. It's honestly bad enough now it's entertaining.

I'm enjoying this book! I love a good alternate history book, and this one is incredibly compelling. I'll update when I'm done, but so far so good.
