The scythe in my book would probably instruct to live simply, appreciate life, and appreciate death.

It would probably take some time to cope with, but I would want to spend time with them, and I would try not to fight with them if possible. I wouldn't throw them under the bus or expose their string length.

The shopkeeper makes an interesting point about people's priorities when pointing out that while the Americans' priorities changed in this dire situation, the Italians' priorities were already aligned. My priorities are school, family, passion, and sports.

I think short-stringers should fight for their rights and their own well-being, as they are being extremely oppressed. But on the other hand, they have an objective disadvantage over other groups. If someone is looking for a long-term employee and someone to give life-saving treatment, logically, they will choose the person who will be around longer.

I wouldn't open my child's box because they are already 21 or older and can make their own decisions. If I opened it, I would not tell them how long it was because they would know I secretly opened it.

I think his decision to out his opponents' string status was very power hungry and controversial. I think it might be morally corrupt, but also the people voting should know about the string status as it's important

I don't believe in mircales. I think its all either a lie, misunderstanding or random chance. Maybe if I was apart of a mircale that would change my mind. But they seem illogical.

I do not believe in miracles. I think all miracles are probably either untrue or by chance. I have never experienced a miracle, though, maybe if I did, it would change my opinion.

If I had a long string, I wouldn't test it because I wouldn't want to be paralyzed. But if I weren't paralyzed and wouldn't sustain injuries, I would jump off a bunch of buildings and do anything dangerous because I would have no risk.

A different point of view of Nina's girlfriend allows us to understand how Nina is feeling from another point of view; her sister provides another POV and reaction to the string. This gives us a wide range of her feelings and different reactions.

After finding their strings, Nina portrayed her physical, psychological, and emotional state. Nina found out her girlfriend would die much sooner than she would; her physical reaction was to cry. Her emotions were to be sad and worried. But psychologically, she showed she is caring.

Yes, it starts in medias res, because it started during the conflict when the strings arrived.

If the box appeared at my house I wouldn't open it. I don't want to know when I die because I think that would cause lots of stress and fear when that time came near, I think I would rather live my life and see what happens because I think that would cause less stress and avoid the fear/dread of my death. Especially if my death was certain because no matter what I couldn't do anything about it.

"most notorious crime in US history. But about Booth's supporting cast? Were they all guilty as charged?' is a play on pathos because they are using curiosity; they give a crime everyone is familiar with, but ask questions to hook the reader in with curiosity and pathos.

I learned about a story of civil war generals who got into conflicts and attacked each other, even though they were on the same side. I also learned about the negative response to the Detriot draft day riots, people didn't want to fight in the civil war and the riots had racism.
