scrupulously gratuitous freshly. these words add the the conflicting emotions of this story, as you feel bad for the victims and family, while still having compassion for the criminal and the horror they are about to face.

This text right now is emotional because she's learning about Patrick's crime and trial. The emotions are conflicted because his crime was brutal, yet the trial makes it confusing on who is really to blame.

Currently in this stage of the book, Sister Hellen is writing back and forth with Patrick Sonnier. As she writes him she starts to view him as a human being, but still can't connect the gruesome crimes he's committed to the man she's writing. This blocks her from truly seeing and helping him.

This author is credible since she witnessed this story first hand. I do think that her religion can impact her beliefs and how she interprets this mans story though.

I like this book because it dives into the circumstances of death row.

One time I have felt a unity like this within a community is when a student at our highschool passes away. Each time our community comes together to support one another.

I think it matches the theme of accepting the unknown, predetermined fate. We see this theme throughout the novel, worldwide people are grappling with the knowledge of the measure of their life.

If I were Javi I would be angry with Jack too, because switching the strings was his idea and it seems like it was all apart of a political ploy. However I would have some compassion knowing how Jack felt about his family and the pressure he was under.

I do agree that the short-stringers are like minority groups and they should fight for their rights. I think that in the sense that their rights are being stripped away for stimgas and prejudice against them. Because of this I believe they should fight for their rights back, since it's basic human right.

I don't know if I would've done what Hank did. I understand him wanting to take control because he couldn't do anything for the hospital, but I personally would've tried to handle it a different way

If my parents opened my box after I asked them not to I'd be upset since it's such a personal experience and information to know.

I do not like Anthony's character so far. He seems like a power hunger candidate who is going to divide the country for his own personal success.

Hank has been trying to suppress his feelings about his string. Finding out about his short string has been super hard for him to digest, which is a common feeling for all people with short strings.

I do believe in miracles. I believe that miracles can be simply great things happening, but I also believe that they are sent from God when you most need them.

If I had a long string I wouldn't 'test' it more than I would in my normal life. Like if I had wanted to go sky diving before and now knew there wasn't any risks I would still do it. But I wouldn't do anything just because I knew I wouldn't die.

The characters in the book are all reacting to the boxes a little bit differently. Nina is worried about others since her string is long, Ben doesn't seem to care too much about his string, but at the same time he does seem worried about his short string. Maura wanted to open the box right away but now regrets it, and Amie still hasn't opened it because she wants to stay in the unknown.

So far in the book we've seen a couple beliefs from both Ben and Nina. The main difference between them is that Ben opened his box right away, while Nina only opened hers because Maura did, this already shows the difference in their beliefs, as Nina would rather be in the unknown until she knew exactly what the box meant. While Ben would rather just know right away and deal with the consequences later.

If I received a box of this nature I would not want to know how much time I had left. I believe the beauty of life is in the unknown and the unexpected, and that knowing how much time you had left would affect how you truly lived your life. For instance, if you found out you only had a little bit of time left you would consume your days worrying about the end and what you haven't done, instead of enjoying your life.

"Don't let the cereal eat you" This is a common phrase between Blue and Charlie and it represents the negative thoughts they have. Just like cereal these thoughts fill up their 'bowl'(brain), and they need to 'eat' the cereal, (or stop the thoughts), before the cereal eats them, (they go back to their old habits). This phrase is a way for them to talk about their common problem casually.

Charlie loses her progress when she finds blue doing meth again and rylie cheating on her with her dealer, the death of their friend from the mental hospital caused this spiral from blue which caused charlie to break down. right now coworkers of her found her and took her with them on their trip. I hope that in this last part of the book Charlie leaves these negative people and can start her life fresh

The word I found was reticent because I didn't know what is was at first, and after I found out it means introverted I think it's a great way to explain Charlie

A lesson I've learned from this book so far is that only you can control your path. Charlie did the steps to be better but then met Riley and let him ruin her goals, and she's slowly starting to realize that this isn't what she wants.

Charlie would definetly not believe in the american dream given her teenage life. She is only 18 and has been homeless, been to a mental hospital, and now in a new city with a job of cleaning dishes. She lives week by week and definetly doesn't see herself ever being "successful" as the way society sees it.

I can see Charlie celebrating the holidays in 3 different ways, either alone, just with Riley, or maybe with a couple of people from True Grit. She definetly wouldn't be with family, and her and mikey aren't really friends anymore. I'm not sure what traditions she would partake in because I think she'd be to embarrassed to admit she's thankful for basic things like a house and some food.

I would say Charlie isn't a normal person of society because before the mental hospital she was homeless and had no job. Now she's becoming more of a person of society by getting a job and a home of her own. Charlie is definetly an introvert and has been described as a "cold fish"
