Emily Yoshimura is on page 56 of 388 of The Girl Who Drank the Moon
MAKING CONNECTIONS: I made a text to text connection, when reading about how Luna could not control her magical power, it reminded me of a part in Harry Potter when Ron could not control his magical power in the beginning of the story. I know that Luna was uncontrollably using her magic because in the book it said, "She has no idea what shes doing, Xan thought. The magic poured out of the girl."

VISUALIZATION: Percy is brand new to Camp Jupiter and is mesmerized by its uniqueness. "Shimmering purple warriors stood outside the armory, polishing ethereal swords. Others hung out in front of the barracks. A ghostly boy chased a ghostly dog down the street. " Although I have never seen a ghost or a Roman city before, I can visualize very well what is happening in this moment.

ABSENT MAKE UP CHARACTERIZATION: Piper feels useless. I know this because in the book she says " I think I have a new entry in my top 10 list of times I felt useless." Although she did feel helpless she did try to help out on the boat. Piper also thinks that boys are clueless because her boyfriend won't stop talking about Raina, the girl that used to like him.

VISUALIZATION: When Jason wakes up he has no idea were he is or what he's doing there. "He woke in the backseat of a school bus, not sure where he was, holding hands with a girl he didn't know." When I am confused and don't know what is going on around me I get very anxious and I am sure Jason was feeling the same way.

12/18 CHARACTERIZATION(make up for when I was absent): The main character in this story has very low self esteem. I know this because in the story it says “Lucas felt like he could never do anything right.” Although he is a very good kid spy he thinks that everyone else around him is better than him and he constantly has to fight this feeling.

MAKING CONNECTIONS: This book reminds me of other books like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Although the characters in this book do not have special superpowers like the characters in Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, they are both fighting bad and trying to do good in the world. Also, all of these books travel in groups of 3 which I instantly made a connection with.

Emily Yoshimura is on page 23 of 271 of The Penguin Book of Christmas Stories: From Hans Christian Andersen to Angela Carter
ANTAGONIST: This story has many different parts. The current part I am on is called St. Anthony and His Pig. The little children are going to St. Anthony's house during a storm to bring him honey and nuts. "The children coughed and wiped their noses." This shows that the children were very cold during the storm therefore the antagonist is the storm.

Static v. Dynamic: The static character in this story is Sally's grandma. Even after moving to a different state, Ma Fanny is exactly the same as when they lived in New Jersey. The Dynamic character in this story is definitely Sally's mother. She has completely changed and become very worried. "I think you worry too much. Relax, go with Arnold." Ma Fanny said,"

ASK QUESTION: My question for this book is who Mr. Zavodsky really is. Sally thinks that he is Hitler in disguise but I don't believe that he is really Hitler but I do believe that it is somebody that Sally knows. "Or HE could be here in Miami Beach" Sally said," This shows that Sally REALLY thinks that Hitler is right here, in Miami beach.

She moves from New Jersey to Florida and she makes a few new friends there. Although she was able to make new friends, she still misses New Jersey. Her brother describes her as dumb, little, and innocent. She loves to play pretend.
