Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World
CC is discussing his experience on 9/11.
During the event, he was in the park with a friend and as they started to hear about the twin towers, he attempted to leave. He encouraged his friend to leave too but their response was “no I’m going to stay and read my book.” He didn’t question it, but later found out that the “book” in question was the Bible. I love a good moment and that was hilarious.

Giving it another go! This time with the hard copy and what a difference!
Considering purchasing a pair of binoculars.

Babylon Sisters (West End, #2)
I love Pearl Cleage’s books for the romance build-up. However, the side stories offer awareness but sometimes lose me.
I find myself Googling side characters b/c my focus is on the main plot. I thought there was more of an emphasis on the mother-daughter relationship. Instead, the daughter is absent for most of the novel.

I'm really loving this book so far! No one can take Toni Morrison's place as my favorite author, but Pearl Cleage is slowing joining the top 5.

I think I like it. Will have to pick up a physical copy because listening to audiobooks sounds like gibberish

I’m excited! I guess this book is from Joyce’s (Ava’s sister) perspective. Keeping an open mind

I really like this book a lot so far. It's hip! (using the term based on the tone of the book lol.) I love the gradual progression of the love story between Ava and Eddie (I assume that's what's happening.) The overall descriptive language and social commentary related to the AIDS and Crack Epidemic is also a nice touch.
This books reads like you're having a conversation/chat with a good girlfriend.

Rest Is Resistance: A Manifesto
DNF I read chapter one and said this is not the book for me. I keep it in my bathroom now with hopes that others will enjoy it. Maybe I’ll revisit it in the future, but for now I’m resting my mind and picking up another book.

Bigger’s greatest crime (initially) was that he was a Black man in America.

This book is so layered! To have been written in the 1940s, it feels relevant and current. Richard Wright was really in his literary bag with this one. It’s like I’m reading a murder mystery, but I’m in the serial killer’s head. Am I an accomplice? Will he try to take me out next? This book is WILD and for a second read, I’m learning and relearning so much!
